I Really love the blocking bit in the game! The story line is put together very well! I also like the choice of stages you use!

Looks like a nice game! Effort is palpable. Great !

Nice? It's reductive if you ask me...  deep_thinking

is there any way to keep the unlocked characters after unlocking them and being able to start a new game with them?

Judging from how they are locked and unlocked, I'm afraid the answer is no. Also I remember Alex don't want player to start with those chars cause the cutscenes don't include them.

In my modest opinion, the game would gain a bit more variety and longevity by using the unlocked chars in new games. Maybe with a cheat, what do you think?  Smiley

Anyway, now, i'd like to inform the author about some bugs/glitchs that unfortunately affects the game. I hope this will contribute to generate an even better version in the next future!  Grin

On the level with the red car in the background the game stopped to scroll forth, and i couldn't go any further then. Here's the image of the level.

http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/1166/bugzd0.jpg

Luckily, the game saved my position, so i will restart from that level  Grin

And now the first list of "bugs":

1) The screen saver doesn't recognize ATOV(or BOR)? O_o
2) Can't perform the special during a grab
3) Can't perform the special while you are hitted, so if you are
between two or more enemies you are doomed to lose a life (the
dogs love this glitch...)
4) Eagle is too strong, each time he gets you with a blow you
los a lot of energy
5) Terry can't perform the "down - forward" special move?
6) You have to turn your character to perform a special move
against an enemy who is behind you
7) Tune down those dogs! They are too powerful and hard to
hit!!!
Cool Ryu's combo's third and fourth blow are performed by a single press of the attack button

That's all for now guys, i'd like to specify that the game is the best bor mod as it is, but i can't imagine how awesome could become improving some elements...  Wink

Sorry, from the way they are set, I don't think there's a cheat for that. Hacking the mod is the only way but if you do hack the mod, why don't you just enable them instead.

Not a bug! You can't block while grabbing and in pain.
I think you use wrong 'special' Wink. Read howtoplay again!

4) Eagle is too strong, each time he gets you with a blow you los a lot of energy

Not a bug! That's the consequence of getting hit. There are tons of games where getting hit give fatal result.

Quote
5) Terry can't perform the "down - forward" special move?

That's because Alex doesn't set it. Not a bug.

Quote
6) You have to turn your character to perform a special move against an enemy who is behind you

So what? if you want to shoot someone, you should face the him/her. That's natural.

7) Tune down those dogs! They are too powerful and hard to hit!!!

I've mentioned this to Alex before but I think the best solution here is that you need to use proper attack against them. Remember noone said that all moves work against all enemies.

Too bad, actually, i don't have any skill in hacking a BOR mod...

Quote
1) The screen saver doesn't recognize ATOV(or BOR)? O_o

 Huh? what screen saver?

Ehm, windows screen saver! It opens up like there is no application ran and no use of keys/pad. I have to turn it off when i play ATOV.

Oh... i mean the special, the Terry/Rock raising storm for example, not the special button, predefined name for the block button.

And, yes, i think a special should be performed anytime you can, no matter if you are being hitten or grabbing an enemy. Let's try to remember Final Fight or Streets of Rage from where the BOR taken inspiration, i guess...

4) Eagle is too strong, each time he gets you with a blow you los a lot of energy

Not a bug! That's the consequence of getting hit. There are tons of games where getting hit give fatal result.

Well, i have to say that there is only one stage where Eagle causes an unproportioned amount of damage. I am speaking about a lack of coherence among Eagle and other enemies.
I could say that this count for Sodom too. In a specific level, he is the most resistant enemy, your hits seems to cause half damage on him. But maybe all of this is intended to be this way, i'm only reporting this thinking of the possibility it was not.

Quote
5) Terry can't perform the "down - forward" special move?

That's because Alex doesn't set it. Not a bug.

i couldn't have said it better thanks bloodbane

Oh, this is getting embarassing for me now...
Just cause my sentence was wrong. Terry can actually perform the "down-forward" move, simply it is a combo that starts with a punch, so it is not easy to distinguish from "normal" attacks.

The weirdest thing is that the author is saying the contrary!  eek

However i have to give you my apologies for this bad report...  blushing

Quote
6) You have to turn your character to perform a special move against an enemy who is behind you

So what? if you want to shoot someone, you should face the him/her. That's natural.

Well, this is a problem easily avoidable using a pad, but if you use the keyboard to play, i can assure you it is quite frustrating.
Do you mind trying the keyboard to fully understand me?

Also, your example hasn't the point imo, cause real life doesn't suffer lacks of playability,

Quote
7) Tune down those dogs! They are too powerful and hard to hit!!!

I've mentioned this to Alex before but I think the best solution here is that you need to use proper attack against them. Remember noone said that all moves work against all enemies.

You have a good point here. But:

1) If a dog hits you once, you are dead, cause they don't cause knock down, this way you are doomed to lose a life.
2) Some characters hit them with normal attacks, some not.

On the level with the red car in the background the game stopped to scroll forth, and i couldn't go any further then. Here's the image of the level.

Hmmm... with img code above, I know the location but I can't tell what's wrong there. Does this happen all time or just few times?

Did you finish the game after loading?

It happened only one time.

Yes, i have finished the game using the save state. Really an awesome game guys!!!  cheers!

I would also repeat that i consider this game a huge proof of the BOR engine possibility and the best fanmade free game around!

Before it, it was SORR, but ATOV is further better imo, i would only try to give my help in improving it, if possible, if the author has the will and time.

I want to apologize if my advices/critics have been seen in some rude/offencing way by anyone of you. Also, remember that i am not a native english speaker so, sometimes, i didn't explain myself the best i could... i admit it!!! Grin

I have also some other suggestions to make this game even better, adding something to the playability.

If someone, or the author, simply think that my reports/suggestions can't be of use, i will stop testing the game...

Let me know your opinions about it.

ok people....listen up cus i aint saying this again Tongue
if the dog is 3 feet high and the character that can hit him when he attacks, if said characters limb is 3 feet or less from the ground, then that character will hit the damn dog, but if the characters attack is above 3 feet from the ground then his wont make contact.

it be kinda odd to have them all hit the damn dog  while some youl see  that is possible and others will be...wtf he wasnt even touching the dog,how did it hit him?
if i would have done that then people would be calling me on it...so sorry but as i stated before, i am retired and nothing in this mod will ever get revised by me, i am not the big tuna who retires all the time but after a few years returns with someone else<----some of you might get it----NFL----->

Gonna side with Alex on this one. As I sated in my review, I do believe ATOV lags behind its contemporaries in technical achievements, and there are mistakes made in it. However, what it does it does well. It's defiantly a step above the dozens of prototypical cookie cutters I get chewed out for criticising and collision detection is not an issue.

If you have a problem with limbs passing over something visually and not magically hitting it anyway, you certainly won't like my work either.
