Hi I'm new and just starting modifying BOR mod.

a few years ago i found RBO and very much like it. well ok i very much fanatics about it. but then after 3 more expansion, the company (French-Bread) stop making anymore (well i guess because the sold the license to Gravity). OK that the usual history

Oh yeah RBO is in my opinion is the greatest 2D side scrolling beat'm up game. Using a very cute char based in Ragnarok Online (don't worry you don't have to be online to play RBO)

Now the RBO still have his little community and we even manage to create some great progress such as PAC viewer (similar to PAK in BOR), great intro movies, experience viewer, character simulator.

Of course the community want some upgrades such as 2nd job, new moves, new weapon, new characters. And while i understand the eagerness, i tried to "lessen" the eagerness by saying that i'm total new in BOR and while there are many similarity in RBO structures files with BOR, there're completely different and expect many differences.

At the moment i'll just want to experiment with this Male Swordman to be able to move in BOR engine (that day will be historical for me)

Well the BOR need 5 mandatory animation and i just recently finish it using Macromedia Flash. so right now still figuring about export it to gif, offset and bbox

Btw it's a longshot but i just want to know if it's possible in BOR,

the RBO have a very complicated select stage scene, (char and stage)
* We can choose a char and name it. and save it. or load it. along with the level, and stats and skills
* The stats are one of the main reason why i love the RBO, it can determine damage, combos, even what skill can be play
* the Skills which is technically the main trigger to perform a skill (special moves), you have to invest some point in the skill tree available.
* in RBO, there's 1 Big Map, and you can choose the city icon for selecting an Area

Other than that i think many aspects of the game will be possible in BOR.

RBO for bor would be great.  I don't know if it would be possible, but I might be wrong.

And welcome to lavalit my friend Smiley.

So someone is interested with RBO as a mod!

Good luck with the mod! I imagine it would be tough work but it never be done if it's started.

I need to warn you about the enemies though. Since it's 2D, enemies are naturally use 'nopain'. Especially bosses, you can't stop what they are doing, until you kill them.

Oooh, goody! Looks like I'm not the only one who is making an MMORPG into a bor mod  Grin

I've seen RO sprite sheets on the net though... does RBO use those or are they custom sprites?

thanks for the support,

currently searching for 'nopain' coz i have no idea what bloodbane talk about.  laughing laughing (i still don't know whether the mod will be 2D or 3D.....)

the sprites are different with RO as you can see in the snapshot. it's just designed base on RO Jobs. and i currently rip it off from the original RBO.

well i just recently be able to incorporate m_swordman IDLE animation in the select screen of original BOR pak. tough work. especially in creating GIF image acceptable to BOR.

can we have 32 bit GIF in character animation ?

Well, if you pay attention more to gameplay, you should realize that RBO is platformer and it's common in platformers for enemies to use 'nopain'. So if you set 2D don't forget about that.

AFAIK there's no such thing as 32 bit gif.

today is a great day to me, coz i managed to incorporate Male Swordman IDLE and WALK animation into BOR. well it's not really perfect but at least it's "alive" and relieve that i'm not that dumb in offset and bbox thing

About the nopain, in RBO almost all standard enemies have pain animation so we can cancel their attack. But it's true that all boss have "nopain" and with all sub-boss with the capability of counter attack, release it self from our combos and different pattern when low hp.

oops no 32 bit gif. sorry. just ignore the statement.

BTW the GIF still not in their best quality. I still can see the pink color. Any ideas what should i do to make it flawless?

of course.

link = my original GIF straight from flash (save as movie sequence in 128 colors at 512x512 pix)
link = resize it into 300x300 with Pal.ACT from original BOR mod

and i have to use the Pal.ACT otherwise the image will become "a chaos of blur pixel"
like this

btw this is the link for my current KULA character with swordman WALK and IDLE animation that i use for the demo mod. It also contain kula.txt with the offset.
link = download Kula.RAR in box.net

Try set video mode to 16bit. Use .png format in 8bit.

Thanks MCW and Bloodbane

using PNG and video 16/32 increase the color quality of the gif Grin. but i still can see the pinky outline again.  eek

this is the step that i take :
1. in M Flash, File > Export to Movie
2. save in PNG sequence
3. choose name and choose 24 bit no alpha (i tried 8 and the quality is lower)
4. Open the PNG in Adobe Photoshop
5. in Image > Mode, i can see that it is RGB and 8 bit/channel
6. I choose Indexed and choose custom and Load PAL.ACT from original BOR
(if i skip this step then the char will become "a chaos of blur pixel" as you can see in the post above)
7. the quality become worsen

so i suspect the pinky and bad color quality cause by loading Pal.ACT which is not optimized for my character. Is that true ?

coz if it is then i have to endure the "pinky outline" until ALL my Char, Enemy, Obstacles and Background image finished then i can create a new PAL.ACT.

i wonder if my solution is true because i read that using OpenBOR in 16/32 will ignore the PAL.ACT. Is there a way to prove that my Open BOR working in 8/16/32 bit ? (i already edit the video.txt)

Note : i already finished adding 5 mandatory animation for swordman in to BOR (idle, fall, walk, rise, pain) and upload it in box.net. check 1st post

If you are using Photoshop, make sure the anti alias and tolerance settings are all at 0. Otherwise Photoshop tries to smooth out image cuts by blending colors, often to the point you can't distingusih with your own eye (that's kinda the point).

In OpenBOR however, that's a bad thing; the extra colors appear as an outline seemingly made up of the transparent color (in your case pink) around the sprite.

Your image is pinky because it is not clean enough while you rip the image, I have clean up a bit, check this attachment. Could you try again in 16bit and see the result.

sorry for the past week and this week i haven't touch photoshop, busy planning the concept of rbo in bor

i will update my progress as soon as possible.

In the meanwhile, my friends suggest another possibilities... he said that i do it in the wrong way from Flash because i resize it in photoshop.

perhaps it should be like this
1. Open Fla in Flash. resize it down to 300x300 (hopefully still in good shape)
2. Save in 24 bit PNG Sequence using Transparent Background (no Pinky)
3. Edit in Photoshop, Add Pinky layer below it
4. Index in 256 colour and save PNG. ( i use colordepth 32)

if it still have pinky line, perhaps i should upgrade my Flash MX 2004, they said in newer version, it has Trace Bitmap features....

ok then, back to my jail (@ office)  nervous
