Halloween: The Wrath of Michael Myers
« on: June 09, 2011, 05:43:36 am »
I made a game in MUGEN called Escape From The Psycho, which simulated being the victim in a horror movie.  You're being chased by a maniac, and you had to escape to the safe zone at the end of the level.  In your path were many obstacles, slowing you down and allowing the maniac to catch up to you.

NEW VIDEO:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gs3vQ1_EdAE

MUGEN video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHqOhR_Rl2I

I'm converting this game to OpenBOR, and changing the generic maniac into Michael Myers instead, so it's a Halloween game.

I've seen your video of the Mugen game before but I haven't played it. It looks like you really want to make a playable run instead of fighting. This should be a horror style I guess. I forgot what made me feel interested of horror. Also, I guess it would be more of a chasing game than just a traditional beat em up.

EDIT: I forgot if I have watched Michael Myers movie(s) or not. As I said, it would be like a chasing game to me, like the Mugen you did.

Yep, that's the idea - it's a game where you are being chased.  You can try and fight, but you'll get killed.

You are faster than Michael, but he never stops.  Every time you get to a door, you have to break it down, which allows Michael time to catch up.

Cool!
It's a good thing to see you converted it to OpenBor.
I really enjoyed the mugen version in the past, but the auto-turn bug make it really frustating to control in some moments.

BTW I prefer the maniac sprite than the new one.
But it's a personnal taste. (I prefer the pixelated characters)

good luck. :)

I cannot wait to try the openbor version. Your previous version was fantastic! Have you thought of adding the first stage of Caddillac and Dinosaurs, the section where you enter a room that looks like it was ripped out of Resident Evil 1?

Ninja magic. Ninjitsu-to, the ability to seem invisible to cause fear and paralisis in your enemies.

Very horrifying. That would be a great chasing game which it hasn't been made in Openbor. Once you complete it, I guess it would be the first chasing mod in Lavalit. It's good you make something innovative.

was wondering if your working on this game anymore. ben thinking itd be good to have a bonus mode where you are michael myers chasing victims.

Is there a way to make some enemies run away from player ? Could have some enemies you can sneak up on and kill and others who see you and run, and others who try to fight you.

My current project: Simpsons treehouse of horror
My very first mod: Evil dead 2 redux

I haven't done any more work yet on this.  I like your idea about the bonus mode!

Yes, if you set enemy AI to avoid they will try and evade you.

With scripting, which I'm not good at, everything you mention is possible.
