Should I feel insulted now that they didn't C&D Beats of Rage?  :lip_biting:

Haha, no, you just didn't call it "Streets of Rage 4" (or something like that), I guess. And yeah, SORR also does use a lot of graphics from the original games, plus it was incredibly popular for a second (before they took it down). Infrastructure for retro homebrew games is better today than it was in 2004.

How to mod:
1 Pick an interesting game: There are plenty of 8-bit/16-bit classics waiting for a remake
2 Rip your own sprites & stages
3 Use a custom palette: http://borrevolution.vg-network.com/tutorial.htm
4 Check your offsets: http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php?topic=1099.0

Did you know?
Using void main()
{
playgif("data/my.gif", 0, -4, 1);
}

as spawnscript streams a GIF anim instead of loading it

Everybody gives companies grief about this sort of thing, but then 90% of them turn right around and behave the same way over their own stuff. Even more hilarious, they'll do it with things they didn't actually make. Even Bombergames themselves is guilty of this; they are quite sensitive about their 'original' content, when the vast majority of it boils down to high quality frankenspriting.

I stand by what I said. Some of the cut scenes, special art, and menus are original. Nearly everything else is a modification of existing resources, and quite an obvious one at that. It's actually kind of fun to play through and spot what games besides Streets of Rage have been cribbed.

Right off the top of my head I recall seeing resources from King of Fighters, Eternal Champions, Shinobi and the Golden Axe series.

You'll note also, I never said that was a bad thing. It doesn't take anything away from SOR Remake as an accomplishment. But it does mean they can't get too worked up at Sega. Allow me to quote the SOR Remake readme:

Quote
RESOURCES
------------
Any additional material not present in the original games has been created exclusively for
Streets of Rage Remake by the team. This material does not exist anywhere else, apart from material
used in the previous version (V4), so we expect the work to be respected for all the time and effort put into every new piece.

The game is free, but this does not mean that the resources are free.

The custom sprites (edits or even new), remixes, artwork and new or remastered stages belong to the respective artists and are not to
be used or altered without the consent of their authors.

Bombergames has every right to do this; they created a lot of original content and they have full domain over it. The catch is, they can't lock down their IP, then get mad at Sega for doing the exact same thing, nor can they try to license what amount to retouches of existing material. Photo shopping Andy Bogard's animations and Iroi's portrait into Shiva doesn't make them your property.

 ;)

That said, I don't condone other people mindlessly cribbing SOR Remake in turn. We banned the SOR XXX crew for that kind of behavior. It really all boils down to common sense and a little respect.

 :cheers!:

What a great game. The multiple paths and endings were pretty cool. I hope sega did hire bomberman games. If this was something on the psn or xbox live I wouldn't mind downloading it again.  ;)

You people obviously don't get that it was posted on the forums that Sega just told them to take the downloads down. There was NO mention of C&D whatsoever. Bombergames are still fighting this and also are discussing the issue with Sega. They refuse to release any more information than that.

So stop talking about C&D because it hasn't been announced as such yet. So please stop talking as if SORR has been C&D'd because it hasn't. Bombergames' site is only down due to the amount of traffic they experienced during the month of the release. Expect Bombergames to be back up next month sometime provided no delays occur.

No one is not bashing Bombergames we just speculating the situation of it. The people on their forums posted their information for the major video game news websites and whatnot which Sega caught it through the grapevine.

Don't put words in our mouths. No one said there was a C&D, and no one is bad mouthing Bombergames. Also, nothing was said about the Bombergames site at all; we aren't stupid enough to think it got shut down over this.

We have only been speculating about the status of SOR Remake itself. Since up to this point Bombergames has provided almost no info on the situation, what do you think people are going to do?
