Hi everyone! I present to you my project.
The concept I want to note:
- A simple (in structure) beat em up.
- Emphasis on graphics and special effects.
- Emphasis on the plot.

In other words, I want to create a beat em up in a streets of rage -style (with simple combos and without additional tricks), but! most spectacular and atmospheric. I want to achieve this using a nice graphics and beautiful music.
All characters are 3D full animated models, which rendered and edited into sprites.
I use characters from (section 8, mass effect, lineage, tera... )

My project is called the MASS EFFECT: Dark Corners of the Galaxy. In it, I want to tell my story, which happened a few decades before the original trilogy.

In the center of the action is underground Corporation Black Frontier, which was engaged in the creation of battle droids, based on living beings. And about how they found an ancient technology that allowed them to get power. And about two heroes that tried to resist them. Two heroes - their own creations. Two soldiers from Shepards dead squad (before ME1), who secretly stole Black Frontier for experiments.

The game will take place in remote and dark areas of the galaxy.

It looks amazing.
The floor only looks so weird may be because there is no player shadows.

 As for recording with snagit, have you tried fast codec? I forgot the settings name cause I'm using Camtasia Studio now.

I think the thing is not in recorder. Camtasia give me the same result as Hypercam and SnagIt. Maybe my notebook not too strong to record a 960x540 video  :(

impressive,you can record with virtualdub ,its free, download ffdshow for it and use mjpeg codec from ffdshow.Invirtualdub select avi captuire and in source select screen capture then set size etc.MJPEG is fastest codec for capturing vids like that.

I would make lifebars a little bit darker to match bgs better,theyre kinda washed out.

Thanks) Yes i use UE Viewer to export models and textures to 3Ds Max. I still have not date of release, but i try to hurry up. I plan to release (for begin) complete 1st stage.

Here is the video sample of combat. This is the test level (so it is very simple)).

Frankly, until recently, the battle planning thought slow. But watching videos of MK9 I wanted to make them more dynamic, with the possibility of combining attacks. This is my first attempt in this direction. Maybe you're something to me advise?

finally something to see, the frozen frog was killing me.  :laughing:

It looks really nice, that combo system dont seem to fit very well in the style of game you are trying to make.
Maybe a combo system like in the "Mortal Kombat Outworld Assassins" by magggas will fit better.

keep experimenting, i am sure you will find something that will fit what your needs.

all that I have now stopper, a combat system. Want more dynamics. Although the other 2 character (about whom I would later be described) under it are not appropriate, because one - the shooter (ranged attack), and another healer (cleric). Game is for cooperative play. Each different way of fighting, so that the experiment - a way to compromise.

ahha this looks so great :) very impressive work.Fps and smoothness speaks for itself,most mods are sprite based pixel artowrk which isnt smooth,3D renders look great with such smoothness. :)
How about juggling and air combo launchers, so you would uppercut opponent into the air and then jump after him to attack in the air.

 Nice videos and cool graphics! I can see the mod better with videos (nothing to do with frozen frog issue though).

 Anyways, as for combos, I agree with bWWd, juggles would be nice. If you plan on cooperative play, I suggest that only certain characters which can perform launchers.
 The zombie in 1st video is really slow but it rises very quick.

 Hmmm... interesting. I might suggest making enemies which can only be defeated by certain characters or at least the former would be harder without the latter.

 For 2nd video, the falling meteors is cool but I suggest that they don't post a threat aside of knocking down players. This is so players don't have to worry much about them. But if you want the meteors as trial, at least give shadow to show where they will fall so players don't have to memorize the falling location.

 BTW is that werewolf in 1st video? he walks like human but runs like beast.

And it is very difficult to catch just one frame. Is it possible to specify a range of frames? Let's say if I hit him in the range from 5 to 15 frames of animation?

Its not hard,just give enemy character jugglepoints  ,for example jugglepoints  20 in header and in player attack add jugglecost 5,so after attack connect it will add 5 points to enemy juggle and if there will be more than 20 points then attack will miss and resets to 0 again when enemy is not in pain or not in fall anims.

 IMO escapehits shouldn't be used too often to counter infinites. For bosses, it's okay but for regular enemies, it's too much. If you give the latter not too big HP, players could kill them with simple combo or any freespecials, not much difference if infinites were used instead.

 Bosses, aside of using escapehits, could use other 'defenses' such as defense (great for big ones) or dodge (great for agile ones). For the latter, even if it sounds cheap, laying a finger on agile bosses is a challenge so ability to kill them with infinite would be worth it.

Im wondering if this would be playable on PSP,since PSP can run mods with hi res but its rescaling is simple pixel skipping,blinear would solve the problem.

Here is the second "mini boss". codename "Molot".

looks great ! You can capture again with camera ,focus with it properly to get sharp picture and put it still in one place then play the game.

 The mini boss at the end of video needs couple delay before it attacks. IMO it's too quick, it should raise its hand 1st for 1 second before stabs it to ground.

The first skin used in LOCO - fantasy game with swords and ancient armor  :blushing: )) I need a sci-fi, robotic, future style for my project. So i re-design each character for futuric setting. Maybe in motion you like him better  :)

Maybe try to blend the colors a bit better so they dont pop out that much and use more shades cause previous one had more details and now its like swimming suit with colors.

 yeah, I agree with bWWd. Also, Collider has horns which aren't visible in 2nd shot. You should give texture to them.

 Anyways, great work on this enemy! He's a menace with his weapon !

Oh, yeah :cheers!: Finaly! I`ve just played with my brother as 2 players at 1st complete stage on his computer (his is more powerful), and in fullscreen mode gameplay is wery clean and smoothly. Should have seen his eyes when I said that this is my game) ;D

SO! All that's left - is to add a few missing sounds and making credits)  :cheers!:

It's all because I did not use ready-made arcade sprites, and did everything from zero. Characters, levels, effects ... - All from zero.

plus, I have a lot of experience (7 years) in Photoshop, 3Ds Max.

and plus, i have a lot of experience in sound design programs, so all the sound design I made myself, from the many sounds made ​​new ones.

To summarize, I wanted to use the graphics capabilities of OpenBor at the maximum.

 The animation feels smooth and you added decorative stuffs such as ship, big boss walking behind and boss floating behind elevator. Great!

 BTW can players block? With narrow playing field like this, it's hard to survive without block or any defensive abilities.

 ;D Wow excellent job buddy with your project im very impressed with such graphics and gameplay reminds me the style of one must fall an old kickass doss game involving robots a fighting arena type i reccomend u check it out if u havent seen or heard of it before.

About the collision issues and jumping;

I think all those need is some fine tuning. @mtrain, don't forget the default values for ranges (http://caskeys.com/arc/games/openbor/wiki/index.php?title=Range), zdepth, jumps and knockdown velocity are all intended for characters sized to 320*240 resolution. A bit of simple tweaking, and those problems will go away.

Something else you might want to look at is dead enemy removal. It's very jarring when you have all of these awesome effects, but then grunt enemies just flash and disappear when beaten. That kind of thing might be OK for Double Dragon or the original BOR, but it has no place in a visual masterpiece like this mod. One option is to leave them on screen, but considering the size of your characters that would probably make too much clutter; perhaps they should explode like the drones. If nothing else, use an alpha mask to fade them out instead of flashing.

Again, I think the overall mechanics and game play variety still need a lot of work, but you have a great start on your hands. Keep at it.

Haha, i knew that someone must say that)) And i want to say that earlier i keep them all on screen, but there is a trouble: status icon of killed enemy dont disappear from screen long time, so i make them removing from screen, but as for blinking, i have not make disappearing animation to time of demo release.  :)
