Bloodline: Origins is a new OpenBor Mod that im excited to work on!

Players: 1 player Origins Mode Only

Levels: Travel through 5 different Maps with separate enemies

Release Date: August 2012

Systems: All portable systems, Mostly tested on Xbox

Story: "Betrayed by the one who taught him everything, Delacroix holds a grudge against his former master Zodiac for murdering the Goddess Jupiter. Now Delacroix must take off, find answers and seek revenge in the name of the Goddess. Can a angry apprentice defeat his master and bring the innocent back to life?"

Honestly, this is probably gonna be my most cleanest Openbor game ever. My plan is to make it as real and fluid as possible. I'm gonna hire testers to test it out at certain points, so if you wanna be a tester than let me know. I have 4 years of OpenBor experience, and this is gonna be my 4th title. So you know I'm aiming for something Epic!! See you guys around, I'll keep you posted. Expect gameplay soon.

When I saw the name Delacroix, i thought of Chaos Legion... aah good times.
I played that before, haha i remember that guy Victor Delacroix from Chaos Legions.. aahhhh sooo many childhood memories. but i actually got the name Delacroix from a artist.  :eek:

 When I heard the title, I thought you are referring to Castlevania : Bloodlines. I'm also kinda affected by your request at discussion forum which speaks about 2D mod.

 Anyways, good luck with the mod. Can't wait to see gameplay of this!

 Sorry, I meant when I read that post of yours in discussion thread, I am thinking that you are making 2D mod. So when I read 'Bloodlines' in title, my mind immediately linked to that Castlevania game.

Update!
I was messing around with the music programs again, and I created a theme for one of the stages in Bloodline: Origins.  :nervous: And of course, I was inspired by my bro DJGameFreakTheIguana. Hope you guys like the music... I'll introduce another character today as well. :D A badass character!

Jupiter is non-playable character. She was poisoned by Zodiac for reasons unknown. Delacroix must set off and find a way to bring her back to life.

I'm revealing more characters later... ;)

No need to be sorry, SK. It's okay if you double or triple posts a few hours after (in each post you make). But I think a few seconds you post after you post, not good. As of now, you didn't do anything wrong. You were just giving updates. That's all.

Thanks, this is only the beginning stages. Hopefully i can get some good gameplay posted soon.

Zodiac: The Life Ender

Zodiac murdered the Goddess Jupiter for unknown reasons.. He was Delacroix former master. He was known as the nicest guy around the lands until he obtained the name "The Life Ender". Now he's pure evil and kills everything in sight! Some say that he is turning into a "Mythical Beast" from the Legendary stories that's been told. His 3rd eye is the 1st of 3 sign. Delacroix must take him out before all of the signs are revealed.

I'm not a fan of the sprite, the black has no shading whatsoever, his feet is bigger than his heads, change the black outlines to a darker shade of the color it's outlining, black outlines often give you 2D feels, and the fact that his skin has colored outline, sword handle looks meh, the blade looks meh, third eye is not that noticable, cape is also meh.

I'd give critique to the other Delacroix too but I'm too tired to list down some more wrongs.

Only Jupiter looks good.

Well I can't impress everyone with my style of sprite editing, but hey, everyone has there own opinion. I go with a different style and color scheme in every mod i make.. I'll admit, i have flaws in my work, everybody does, but this is the style that i go with, and it looks great with the backgrounds that im using.

It's a little hard to impress everyone when you're trying to come off original. I learned that a long time ago.

Well, I guess so, I'm just not that impressed in games with HUGE sprite and shade differences/distorts. But seriously dude, fix the shading, shading changes a lot of things, as shown here

not much of an Update!

Okay, so after experimenting and messing around, i finally came up with some gameplay that i like!  :proud: I wanna get a gameplay video out soon, but i have some sprites to finish 1st. So wish me luck you guys. I overlooked the gameplay in my previous games like Skull Kingz & Overload as an example of how to improve. This game isn't gonna be "another clone".

Looks interesting though the sprites need some more shading.

For some reason I always read the title as Bloodbane. :laughing:

@SK - How violent do you pan the game to be? He looks like the kind of char that could switch between using his sword and fists.
Will we be seeing him chop some heads off? :)

I plan to have him switching back and forth from fist and sword. I know how to get that going. But can i chop heads off without script? Because i will definitely make that happen.

Yeah probably a few ways but the first thing that comes to mind is having the decapitating blow/attack like attack6 and then enemies would have death6 animation (where head comes off).  The head could be it's own entity so you can make it spawn in the enemies death animation to make the head fly off and roll along the ground. ;D

You could have some grabs or followups to other attacks like grab and stab/execute the enemy.

Cool, cool. :deep_thinking: interesting...  how about this, I'll make a new thread about this in the help section when the time comes. This could make gameplay even better. I like the whole "spawning head rolling thing". There would be bloody heads and bodies everywhere. And it would look epic on a snow stage!!

You should round up heaps of different blood flashes, then use them for certain attacks, so the decapitation would spray lots of blood, other attacks would of cause varying amounts of blood.  You could have blood stay on the ground for even more gore. (last frame of blood flashes would spawn a blood splat or something)  there's some blood in the effects pack DC uploaded in tools section http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=132

You could pull it all off without script, the engine is setup for the extra attack/death/pain animations, custom flashes and entities.

Oh yeah, i'll definitely be checking out that effects pack DC uploaded. You're right, the engine is set up nicely to turn Delacroix into a badass character.

 If you want to avoid 'cloning', you need to change basic gameplay stuffs such as atchain and throw. These 2 mechanics are widely used. For atchain, since you made sprites from scratch like this, I highly suggest made new attack chain. Anything than 11 2 3. If possible, made longer chain, people will notice this easily.
 As for throw, only add this ability if you want to. If you don't want, don't bother declaring this animation. It's also used too often so if Delacroix can't throw, it would make big difference ;)

I'm gonna set it up to where Delacroix obtain a weapon during the game. He can switch back and forth at anytime. And of course, gameplay will be different between the 2. When using the sword, things like grab and throw are gonna be disabled, but the attacks are gonna be faster with less damage with a weapon. That's my way of balancing things out so that people don't take advantage of the weapon.

To avoid being a clone, i'm definitely gonna use chain combos to mix things up. That's a must, but i'm also looking into 'scripted throws' to make it a little bit better. And then there's fun things like slicing your enemies head off that's gonna make it a little more unique.
