Title: I'm leaving the homebrew scene.
Post by: SX on June 09, 2009, 12:11:35 pm
I will tidy up what ever projects are left such as Dreamcast, xbox, gp2x and not introduce any new features.  This way people should be able to play on all consoles as my parting gift to all of you.

As for the website and sourceforge, I'm handing it over to Damon.  We will move it to his hosting company and it should for the most part be transparent for all of you.

It has been a pleasure working with all of you but life has me real busy, though you will probably still see me lurking around here and there.

Sorry to be reading this, although I'm sure with Damon at the helm Lavalit will be in good hands. I wish you the best in all of your future endeavors and want to thak you personally because without Lavalit I would have never experienced obor.

God speed friend. :cheers!:

This is a very hard blow to the community. We've lost our primary coder, as far as I know the longest running developer so far, and the most experienced site host all at the same time. More importantly we're loosing a good friend and the community's spiritual leader. He has contributed a lot more to this community then most of you will ever know, and he will be missed.

SX has already turned over ownership of the site to me, along with the head of devolpment on Sourceforge. It goes without saying he will retain full access, and as far as I am concerned, the same authority as always. All the better to lure him back if he gets the itch to start up again.

 ;)

As SX said, we'll try and make the actual site transition as invisible as possible, and it probably won't happen until november.

Good luck in whatever you do SX, but please don't dissapear fully; the community won't be nearly the same without you.

Thank You all for your heart felt responses....  This is why I believe I had chosen the right people for the job when it came to moderating this site, due to the fact we have great members or should I say friends here!  This could not have been accomplished without their hard work and I know for a fact that they will continue to do great job here!!  Hopefully, my leaving will cause others to standup and take the reigns as far as development on the great engine is concerned.

wow.
the openbor thing would have been long dead imo without this site.
borgen and bor-rev were both good sites but when they were abandoned, there was no where left to go.
i'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work here. fiddling with mods helped me with my depression and gave me something to look forward to. yeah i know get a life vyck. seriously though, its nice be able to create and edit your own living breathing world, even if its just a mod. DC dont take no ****, so i'm sure things'll be cool in your absence.
Still...it's shame to see you go. god bless man, and good luck in all your future endeavors.

SX, please visit here often.

:'( I really do not want you to disappear forever.

SX is the most commited coder that I truly respect.

UT is the most commited developer that I respect.

Now both of them are not here, this site will be very quiet.

Good luck in the future.

Damn, this's kinda sad to read :(
Thanks for your work on OpenBOR, I Started coming here around the time my dream of making a video game(mod or not) was starting to fade. Good luck with the rest of your work and whatever it is that's keeping you busy man. I'm still a bit of a novice modder compared to some of you guys, but I'll try to lend a hand with helping the more less experienced modders here.

DC, best of luck running this site, I know lots of people on the net have got Beef with you(saw youtube posts), but as far as I know, your cool man. Like I said before, I'll try to help out as much as I can, if I can. :cheers!:

End of an era. Simple as that.

The community won't be the same again.

Thanks for all you've done , both for me personally and for the whole community and good luck with "real life".

:( It make me sad to here this since you SX make good progress with the many update openbor engine and yet the best at it I might add. So your taking a long vacation right and be right back when your healthy again right? ;D
I dunno if letting DC or OX doing the updating alone and running the site at the same time or any other member of the staff will make it easier for them as they too are busy with real life stuff, but if your leaving us with a final project as a last gift I can't give you more then my best wishes and good luck with everything your doing.

Well, good luck with everything, SX!  Your work and optimizations will definitely be missed by the other coders.  DC, OX, and I have made a lot of the new features, but you do a ton of work behind the scenes to keep everything running at top notch.  The community is a much better place for all your work!   :cheers!:

Look at all the responses in this thread! SX, no one had a better, longer, or more productive run then you- respect! :cheers!: You were definitely the glue that held the engine for as long as newer features were added, and so I hope that compatibility & more bugs won't become an issue in the future (not saying it will, just thinking out loud).

Hopefully we'll still see you around, but good luck with whatever life decides to throw your way ;D.

:'( SX. Good luck. :'( :cough: :clearing_throat: Thanks for everything what you've done so far on this site. You changed my life forever on this. When I first got here, I didn't know anything about this. Without Lavalit, I'm nothing. This site makes me wanna be who I really am today and I'm glad I join this site. This helped me overcome my wickedness. Also, I learned not to lie to others in this site and real life situation. I'll miss you like crazy, man! :looney:  :'(

Hey, my friend is with me looking at what I'm sayin'.

Be strong. You've carried our hearts to joy. I've learned life. Life is full of challenges and has many ways for each person to do. Visit anytime. I hope you're here often. :blushing: :restrained_laughing:

I have faith in you, SX, that you will finish all the consoles for the users' interests for OpenBor. This is why he has to leave according to my theory (in my head :eyebrow_action:). :praying: As Damon becomes the head for LavaLit, I know becoming the leader of this site is very tough. As some said before, it won't be the same as it used to be. Best of lucks for SX. Farewell, man. Welcome to a new leader of LavaLit,..... Damon Caskey.

(Situation, tough) This is like a parent watching over a child.

I am sure that consolles are not in a danger  ;)

Sumy is the only one that can easily (and, i suppose, fastly) compile those platforms

sorry to see you go but I appreciate all the hard work you did for the engine.  you put up the best site the engine had seen, organized the engine well ports across many platforms, and just did a great job with everything.  with all that work its understandable that wouldn't always be able focus that much on openbor. best of luck with everything you do.

Well , we all know what it means ,thats sad news...
I was hoping that some first online gameplay builds will show up in the future as you mentioned tests with 2 PSP's,theres even option for it in paks menu but disabled.
So it wont be possible to enable it ,its too buggy ,or its in too early stage probably ?
Thanks for all what you did for the engine ,you made some really important and major breakthroughs with new features.
