Title: Knights & Dragons: Final Cut
Post by: Pierwolf on September 28, 2010, 04:03:28 pm
Hi everybody!

Long time no see, isn't it?

well, i've had a very busy year. New job, new car, new girlfriend, new games... you know how it goes!  ;D

anyway i've finally completed my Knights & Dragons Mod, i've completely reripped all the sprites and converted it for one of the latest openbor engines. it now have 3 player coperative play, new gameplay, new effects... in a way, it's completely different from the previous demo!
it needs only a very important thing: your feedback!

so, try it and let me know if you finds bug or else. Enjoy!

UPDATE:

- fixed bug in hellhounds that make the engine crash when they're hit with fire attacks.
- fixed some bugs here and there.

tested with the last openbor version actually (3342).

By the way doesn't it deserve to be on the lavalit server?

We don't judge what modules go on the server. If it isn't there then the author just didn't upload it.

Very beautiful and well made game.   :cheers!:

...but...

There are quirks here and there.  There are times when you can just spam the attack button and be in total safety.  Obviously not an issue with projectile enemies but it struck me as odd.  There was one point where I knocked down the baby dragon and was able to repeatedly knock it down in safety despite the fact that it was trying to use the fire breath.

I hate the fact that you can't see the timer.  However, it's good there is a timer since the Cleric feels like he's potentially overpowered.  With the AI, you get too many chances to heal yourself during fights so you can potentially live forever.  Especially, since there is a continuous mana regain.  I'd advocate increasing the MP cost on the self heal so it's less abusable.

One of the allies during the fight with the blue dragon is glitched.  I think it's Lancelot since I saw him jump kicking right then but one of the allies did something that took the dragon from 60% life to death in one hit.

Wow ! It's been a long time since I've played the Knights & Dragons demo, and I'm glad to see that the full game has been released.

I'm definitely looking forward to playing it as I really enjoyed playing the demo.

I hope to see more mods and releases from the creator of K & D.  :)

This is my current favorite mod right now. I do have an issue though, maybe someone can help?
I usually put mods on my psp so i can play them on the go (on the bus, train, at work, etc.)
For some reason i get a random blue crash screen while playing. does anyone know why this is happening or how i can fix it?
The OpenBor.elf and the Log file are included at the bottom.

Umm...Ok,
So I took it upon myself to make some tiny cosmetic changes, and add some moves to the Dragon road characters.
everyone now has the ability to
"Run"
"Runattack."
"attackboth"
single button "block" - Using A2 (replacing "attackbackward")
single button "Evade"- Using A3 (simple backdash animation)
Plus - One extra ability specific to each character.
and it still works on psp ;D Yay!
...for the most part anyway, i still dont know what crashed it before.

If Pierwolf says its okay, Then I'll post it here.
On a side note, thanks to Pierwolf for putting out a fantastic mod
in the first place.

Pretty good mod. I love it!

But... when you can play with the thief? When I die, I only can continue with the original character.

Odd. The game always hangs on the opening load screen at midway.
Edit: Nevermind. It just takes a long time to load and you can't hit a key.

Yeah... Cleric is sort of broken.  Got to do multiplayer Monday with some friends and you're potentially immortal with a Cleric on the team.  Even more so if you have a Cleric, Wizard, Dwarf team.  It gets to the point where the only thing that can kill you is time over and stage glitches.  While the characters are fun, the main mode is too easy.  I'd suggest tweaking what spawns for teams so there's a little bit more difficulty.  I'd also suggest slowing down the speed of mana regeneration so there's a bit more penalty to spamming magic.

I was able to confirm that NPC Lancelot's flip kick does way too much damage since it killed the blue dragon when it was at half life.

The Knights of the Round mode seemed about fine in difficulty.  Then again, lacking a Cleric + Wizard combo meant enemies could actually get in some damage.  One of my friends was wondering if you would be adding in any form of XP system since he had played the original D&D arcade games.

MixMaster features update to a great game (with a small surprise)....

You need to download the attached file and the original game and then read the read me in the zip file. In short it will create a new pak file from the original.

Hmm... Matman, are your scripts portable? I get the impression that it is cause it seems you can port them so easy to other mods like this.

Anyways, aside of difficulty control, what else you added? :)
Title: Re: Knights & Dragons: Final Cut
Post by: MatMan on December 18, 2011, 11:13:03 pm
The scripts are Totally portable, planned it so that it can be easily used (Most commands anyway) used within openBorStats.

Here the update list...
Updates include (2011-12)...
Added Transparency.
Added Difficulty Selector.
..This effects things like aggression, health, speed etc with all enemies.
..Can only be changed on the first stage and only lasts about 30secs.
..Gets Saved and loaded automatically.
Changes to Playable Characters
..All players first attack can be sped up by holding Forward. (Kinda like the original games)
Added Trailzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Tested compatibility with latest openBor Build (v3 3609).

The fast attack is the big difference though, for me it made the game totally re-playable.

Post by: Die_In_Fire on December 18, 2011, 11:17:11 pm
the difficulty only lasts 30 secs??

MatMan, what other scripts do you have to be portables? that forward attacks sounds like a great change, not sure what "transparency" does tough...
Title: Re: Knights & Dragons: Final Cut
Post by: MatMan on December 18, 2011, 11:30:25 pm
The lamps to set the difficulty only lasts 30sec then they disappear but the difficulty setting remains. This is the method I'm using until I figure out how to create a menu system to set it.

Good looking game! Runs real slow on Dreamcast and my PSP. Anybody got any clues why? Do i need to look into getting a older version of bor engine? Im new to this so does it matter at all what bor engine to use when playin older game paks vs new paks with different systems?

Hi

I have DL the mod here : http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php/topic,5094.msg71767.html#msg71767

Test it on the last OpenBOR version and blocked by some bugs :(

I have add the MadMan FIX and test it again.
It works better and i can continue after the Hydre cave :p Thanks.

But why do you unlock all the characters at the begining ?
Now when we win one, it is not important :(

I found 2 other bugs :
- On the boat when we have win the thief, if we die we will rise near a matte and we can't move :( we must abort the game :(
- When we kill the Minotaure, now you fix the game, the script is very long to say us we must fight it again, it is so strange and we can walk 15s :p

Thanks
