Having trouble testing changes
« on: December 01, 2012, 02:57:10 pm »
Hello all!

I was trying this a while ago and ended up getting a bit frustrated but I am back again trying to make this work. The only problem is after looking at the openBor resources and beginner guides I still seem to be missing something.

I have exploded the original pak I received which I believe came with BORXtra and a dummy bor.pak file. I went in and made a few changes to the models.txt file and one of the characters in order to get my feet wet. The problem is when I go to run the .pak to test the changes none of the changes that I made to the character.txt file or the models.txt file show up. I also noticed for some reason I am missing the "Menu" folder which should be in the openBor folder. Not sure if that makes a difference but any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have been trying for 2 days to just get the changes to post so I can really get into creating a game. If you need any more information please let me know. Thanks in advance and much appreciated!

Dude, I agree. I think that the major shortcoming of Openbor Program Menu Folder None. Now you should be freed regardless of the Menu Folder. No matter who, no matter what we want to Folder Menu Menu Pak Do It Official Score. Very Super happens.

the so-called open source software. But Off the Menu folder. I think this is a mistake every user be able to Favourite Game Selection Screen. :cheers!:

I opened a similar thread.

Thanks for the reply,

I was actually more concerned with just being able to start on my project but I can't figure out why when i make a change to the models.txt and character file and run the openBor.exe nothing happens. I have the bor.pak "dummy" file on the pak folder and everything but either nothing happens or when i put other paks into the folder they show up and play like normal without any of the changes I made.

I just can't seem to figure it out...

Ok so after I make changes to the .txt files I have to re-pak the module in order to test the changes?

Absolutely not. Data folder overrides
.pak contents for just that reason.

Sounds like you have an older version of OpenBoR too, best to use with the latest version if you're just getting started.

Have you read openborlog.txt? I have hunch that you made new playable character but it is incorrectly set and causes OpenBoR to shut down immediately after trying to load him/her as if it never ran.

Thanks for all the help guys! I went ahead and removed the previous version completely and got the newest version. I opened a pak and started messing around and the changes seem to be working! I guess it was a matter of having too many folders out of place. Once again thanks for the help guys!
