Can @cmd playmusic "aaaa" 1 also increse music sound ?
« on: December 06, 2012, 08:50:12 am »
hello

Iam having dificulty increasing the sound for some musics with audacity
most musics i have were recorded at a very low volume compared to the sound effects
iam using in the game. (i have the BORgameoptions sound and music set 100 100)

Ive been increasing the musics volume in audacity with gain and amplify
but some musics look terrible when i increase the volume to the sound effects level

currently i dont have a mike in my pc to record the music in a higher volume

Is it possible to increase the music sound volume with the command
@cmd playmusic "_____" 1

You really should change the actual files, post you music file for me to see the problem.

You could be  increasing the volume beyond the clipping level (which will distort it.)

If the actual files are too quiet and recorded with a microphone then there's probably not much you can do, just increasing volume will bring out the missing/noise in the recording.  The music might just be in bad quality/bad recording.  There is measures to improve audio like this, but music is never going to regain original quality.  It's could be easier to just re-record than mess around fixing it.

Yeah this file has been pushed too far in volume so it's really distorted.  Can you show me one that you had that was too quiet before you edited it? then i can see/hear what's wrong.

I don't really use audacity much, I usually use goldwave for quick editing.  I've got stuff like protools when I need something more advanced.

But I think you shouldn't use amplify, but try the 'Leveler' function.  It will boost the volume to just under the clipping point (0dB).  You will have to use the original audio thou not ones like this that have already been processed with amplify.  Check the picture I attached, the volume cannot exceed the 0dB level or it will clip and become distorted.

Did you say you're recording with a mic?  Just get stuff youtube using an online converter to just download an mp3 - http://www.flvto.com/

If you need to record from an external source, like TV you need to use an audio cable and connect to your PC's 'Line-In' port and record from there.

In the post above Attachment mount1.rar are 2 files
1 is the ( edited/distorded )mount1.wav / the other one mount1.ogg is the original file

Code: [Select]

In the frist post i said i dont have a mic in my computer...
ive talked about a mic because when i raise the volume in my pc the sound doesnt appear distorted its clean. It only gets distorted when i try to raise the volume of the mp3 file using a sound editor...
So i tought raising the volume in the pc and then record the music with a mic would fix the problem.

i will try to download this program and use the 'Leveler' function...
the only online information i can find about volume raise in audacity are raise gain and amplify. This makes the all messy when it goes above 1.0

There's a setmusicvolume command if you want to try.

@cmd setmusicvolume 150 150

For example.

But it is not a good idea to change that directly. Because you don't know current music volume unless you get it using script. Otherwise it will be strange if the player changes the value in the options menu but still gets a loud BGM.

@cmd setmusicvolume openborvariant("musicvol")*1.5 openborvariant("musicvol")*1.5

thanks utunnels

i tought it could be a way of calling a music in a frame and set the volume for that file
without using the volume in the options menu..

I see its a bad idea the player might have the BGM option volume set to 10.
And when set it with @cmd setmusicvolume 150 150 would make it very loud.

Leveler function is in audacity.

Checked the volume of the original file, it's not too quiet, in fact it's also too loud and is clipping.  If anything you need to reduce the volume of the original at least -1 dB.

Not sure what problem is you're hearing with the music, but I have also noticed recently that the music will play at drastically reduced volume sometimes when running OpenBoR than it usually is.  Not sure what causes this, I notice thou because suddenly I have to increase volume on the dial well beyond where it normally sits just to hear it.  And is was a mod that has very loud music at the start already.  I've only had this problem a couple of times thou.

Thinking back I could of been running MUGEN or something else before hand that may of altered some internal volume in windows or who knows (just guessing).
