Like a lazer boomerang, though. If you don't understand what I mean... picture something along the lines of Guile's "Sonic Boom"... except, I don't want that sprite lol

Can you all think of anything? If not, @#$% it, I'll go for the "Sonic Boom"...

I can think of a few actual boomerangs , but not energy/laser types....

You can also go into the Street Fighter II debug mode and get it from the sound test ^^

indeed one can make a boomerang-style projectile... i would suggest that you not use the method of changing attackboxes for the boomerang location

Heh. I was going to suggest Cham Cham , but I can't remember her boomerang looking like that lol. The other character I had in mind was Sho Hayate (Savage Reign/Kizuna Encounter/KOF XI) who has an "authentic" wooden boomerang.

Yeah , making an actual boomerang projectile is the best way to go about it. There are a few methods but , like lbf said , we're here to help.

It's a shame UT never followed up on the idea to creat an "aimove boomerang"......I'll post it here in the hopes that SX can add it....

UT said that the easiest way to make it was to have it behave like aimove chase. The modder adds a range to the boomerangs idle anim. Once the boomerang is out of this range , it changes it's anim (run , I presume?) and chases the parent.

There would be some "tidying up" to do once the boomerang returned (should the parent collect it or let it fly past and dissapear offscreen?) but that , along with the flightpath should be down to the modder to handle. If we had the basic aimove , we'd have a lot of happy bunnies!

 Lazer Boomerang... well, there are couple boomerangs I know:
1. Antonio's boomerang (Streets of Rage 1)
2. Slice and Slisaur's boomerang (Cadillacs and Dinosaurs), 4th and 7th bosses.
3. Shikyoh and Mokuro's blade (Last Blade 1 and Last Blade 2), thrown weapon.
4. Basara's weapon (Samurai Showdown...), his weapon
5. Zero's shield boomerang (Megaman Zero), optional weapon
6. Creeper's boomerang (Gekido Advance), 3rd chapter boss
7. Punisher's boomerang (Punisher), weapons.

 Hmmm as for boomerang AI, I think we need to define it first before scripting it.
How does boomerang flies:
1. Flies then come back DIRECTLY to thrower after hitting anything then slice through anything in its returning path? (I only see one kind of boomerang with this AI)
2. Flies by slicing through anything then come back DIRECTLY to thrower with same way? (Most boomerang does this)
3. Flies like #2 by come back only if thrower is in same z coordinate?
4. Flies like #4 but keeps coming back until thrower catches it? (I've seen a boomerang like this but forgot where)

 I believe all are possible.

Lord Ball has code in BoRHED that already implements a boomerang.

 Well the answer is as simple as it is, change animation. Here's an example:

void anichange(void Ani)
{ // Animation changer
    void self = getlocalvar("self");

    changeentityproperty(self, "animation", openborconstant(Ani)); //Change the animation
}

 Example: @cmd anichange "ANI_FOLLOW1"

 That command will change entity's current animation to FOLLOW1. And yes, the previous animation is completely stopped.

 Hmmm... for #4, the boomerang usually only flies back in same z coordinate as the thrower's. It doesn't move in z axis or only in x axis. Because of that nature, boomerang never returns if thrower's z coordinate is never same with boomerang.
 Still, boomerang has flying limit let's say offscreen. So if boomerang goes offscreen say 100 pixels, it will fly back and it also finds it's parent's z coordinate then adjust it's z coordinate with parent's.
 It would be easier if I have a demo to show this AI.

Though that seems plausible, I thought of maybe a simpler solution. Would putting flipframe in the projectiles idle make it fly in the opposite direction? If that doesn't work, what about putting like a move 5 and then move -5?

It wouldn't make a true boomerang effect, but it would be close enough. It would turn out like the Cutters in Kirby games, if you've played them.
