I have (what I think to be) a free version of Paint Shop Pro 4.12. Should I attach?

Definitely make sure it's free- then ask SX, it's his forum.

No , don't do it.

Paintshop Pro is not a free program. The version you have has been altered in some way.

Bad Nick.... Very  , very bad.

I was a little confused with virtualdub when I first tried it.  for some reason I can't get it to record fullscreen and the sound is not recorded. other than that, no lag ;D

with virtualdub use only mjpeg codec for capture. Its fastest one. Then you can convert it later to something else.

To my understanding it is a shareware version that was never properly designed to lock you out when the 30 day trial ran out.  It's probably safest NOT to attach it but that's the reason why it works.

Hi FW. Great list you have there. Might I suggest that you place a best pick of each section. Ie which is the best font editing one there etc..

Here a great notePad editing app that you might want to add to the list.

As for your first request well- I definitely have my favorites, but this list wasn't made for me, I made it to present alternatives. I myself don't really use the most popular piece of software for each task, I prefer just to use what works best for me- but my preference wouldn't necessarily be someone elses (a choice that's based on personal opinion). Also, even if I were to give my opinion theirs no way I've used every program here. Instead of making a listing of every single program their is, I try to only list the ones I or someone else feels is notable. I may alphabetize it though.

Thanks for your additions MatMan, added!

I have a suggestion I didn't see on the list. I just started using this program before I started my project, and honestly if it wasn't for said program I probably wouldn't even have started on it.

Fighter Factory

It's perfect for pulling sprites, pallettes and sounds from MUGEN character packs. You can edit the pallettes in it as well. Didn't take long to figure out either.
