Bonus JZ was working on updating the game a few months ago, but we haven't heard any news since. With everything that has went down since then, the odds of these additions seeing a public release are pretty slim.

BonusJZ may have been one hell of a modder, but he acted in a trollish manner on a number of occasions, and provoked senseless flame wars with a handful of members. His banning was more than justified.

One of reason this community WON'T die like MUGEN (which isn't really dead, mind you) is because the Admins here won't put up with the kind of behavior BonusJZ exhibited. In nearly all the MUGEN communities I've visited, the overall immaturity and hostility of their membership outweighed it's creative output. Lavalit is the polar opposite, and any e-drama is quickly squashed in order to maintain civility. If that means that we lose the occasional talented modder here or there, so be it; no one's ability can overcome a lack of respect for the rules of the community.

Thankfully, there are still tons of great modders on this site, so Bonus' departure is hardly a fatal blow to OpenBOR. BonusJZ is welcome to publish his work outside of this site as well, if he chooses to do so.

Total newb question, but does the unsecured pak let you add more lives/continues?

Technically the only way to add lives or continues is by editing the mod itself. Since unsecured pak can be paxploded, you can do that.
If you want to know how good this mod is, you should not tamper the mod at all :).

Bloodbane, thanks for the reply.  I've been playing this MOD for some time and think it's brilliant.  I've read the entire 30 pages of debate about how hard it should be etc.
I fall into the camp of casual gamer.  I've beaten the Arcade Nightslashers and I simply wanted to play through this mod to see what BonusJZ added/changed.

I've paxploded the mod but I have no idea how to add more lives/continues.  If you would be so kind as to explain to me what to do I'd really, really appreciate it.  I've familiar with MUGEN, not OPENBor, so I'm assuming there's a file in the data folder that I'm supposed to change, and then turn the whole thing back into a pak?

Look for levels.txt, or something similar (it's possible to change it, but most modders don't).

That file contains the level "sets".  The sets are what correspond to game modes in play. Each set can have the number of lives defined. Their pretty self explanatory once you look have the text open. The command you are looking for is lives {#}. So if you want 10 lives, change the setting to "lives 10". If it isn't there at all, just add it in among the other parameters for that set.

Also, you don't have to repak the module if you are playing on a PC. In fact, the .pak itself can be totally blank. If the extracted data folder is in same directory as OpenBOR.exe, its contents replace or override their counterparts in whatever .pak you are playing. Makes debugging much less painful.

Damon, really appreciate you trying to help me out here:)

I did as you said, I opened levels.txt and the only part that said sets was this:
(I changed lives and credits to 99)

#############################

set   Survival
nosame 1
lives 99
credits 99
cansave 2
continuescore 1

However, when I start up the game, it still has lives and continues set to default.  I still have the Nightslashers pak in the paks folder, along with the data folder.
EDIT** Nevermind, I realized the data folder needs to be in the same folder as the OPENBOR.exe, I re-read your post.  That worked like a charm!  THANK YOU!

Another question:  Will this run on the GP2X or Wiz?  I know other OPENBOR games work just fine...

I have no idea, but I seriously doubt it. This is a very memory and processor intensive module (at least for consoles).
