How To Rip Mugen Sprites
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:11:00 pm »
I was thinking, if there's a paxplode like tool for Openbor, is there something similar to rip sprites from Mugen games? I was looking for that Strider Hien sprite sheet made by K3nshin. I have the Mugen character but it has these weird files in it and no sprites

Get a program called Fighter Factory.  Open it, and use it to open the character (SFF file has the sprites).  Then, you can tell it to save sprites as GIF (instead of PCX)

Ninja'd by Count Monte

Shorter version of my post:
Somewhere on those tabs above in Fighter Factory is an option to save all the sprites from that character in PCX format. I would suggest you download a program called "Infanview" to view them, that's if you don't already have an Image viewer compatible with PCX files.

You can do that, but I don't know if the "Save all sprites" option has that.

Or you could use this guide and use their X and Y axis, which works in Openbor.

Ninja magic. Ninjitsu-to, the ability to seem invisible to cause fear and paralisis in your enemies.

I have the hien sprite sheet. I used it in Strider X. The K3nshin char is not fully edited in mugen. It's missing lots of animation. but I'll be editing hien further for the other 3 Strider games I'm currently working on.

chars with capes and scarfs suck. 1 sprite becomes 12 if the cape or scarf is animated and small details like moving has to put the flowing cloth in perspective just my 2 cents.

I don't want to sound a bitch neither want to start a war, but please at least credit Kenshin for those sprites, since he edited it.

Dunno if you know, but this is the main reason of the hard rivalry between Mugen and BOR (and what gave BOR a bad reputation in mugen community for years): when people get sprites from mugen chars and doesn't give a damn.

Things gets better as the years passes by.

just my two cents  ;)

Illusionista,

What's nice about the BOR community is that we all share characters, sprites, backgrounds.  As a courtesty, we try to always give credit in the mods.  I've been in the MUGEN community for years and there's a lot of negativity there.  Whereas in BOR you'll find everyone is supportive -- whether giving encouragement, helping with script coding, or sharing resources.

My point is that it's a different mind set -- no one here views it as 'stealing' from MUGEN, since no one here views sharing sprites as 'stealing' from each other.

yeah I know it. I am one of the oldest mugen creator still in works (since dec 1999), so I am very aware about its fame.

One thing that I like in BOR is the helpful community. There is no police as we had (and still have...) in Mugen, which tells what is cool and what not.

But I really don't want to extend this subject, I was just giving a tip.

This just blew my mind for two reasons:
1. it's insane that you've worked with Mugen that long, and that game of your shows your experience.
2. I never knew Mugen was this old. I just happened to find it on youtube like 5 or 6 years ago.

@vision:
It's pretty cool to finely see you online here, your Hatchet Ninjaz and Strider X were very interesting mods, my favorites in fact when it came to 32-bit based mods. I was gonna update Hatchet Ninjaz with a new play style based on Fightin' Spirits but I lost my work when my portable HD got busted. If you plan on updating those games, I'd like to help with character modding.  ;)

Thanks. Mugen is from July 1999, if I can remember well. I was into KOF91 before it.
I've quitted and came back tons of times, lol

It's really nice to see skilled users from MUGEN here. I personally prefer brawlers instead of fighting games, but I MUGEN has tonnes of resources that you can`t find anywhere else (even in sprites or background sites). This "migration" is very beneficial for OpenBOR games.
