can somebody please make beats of rage with kaillera netplay.that would be so awsome.can it be done? me and all my kaillera friends been talking and wishing for this for years.if a such thing was to ever be released we would forget about them other games for a while.please make our dreams come true.thanks in advance.  :eyebrow_action:

This topic has been talked about a hundred times. I believe it was either Plombo or Matman who stated that OpenBOR would be incompatible with netplay because of how it loads necessary files. That no internet connection out there would be fast enough to keep up with it, and the engine itself would have to be recoded to work with online capability.

I could be wrong, though. And believe me, I too wish OpenBOR had netplay :/

All emulators on xBox have "Online Gameplay" ... IP to IP for two players ... i try it on Genesis for exemple with "Strert of Rage 2" and it works very fine !
I think it is not a problem for OpenBor to add this option ... but you must found some one who know to do it !

You guys just don't get it. OpenBOR is not, not, NOT an emulator. It doesn't act or work anything like an emulator.

Emulators as their name implies, simply emulate a static set of hardware. They know right up front what they are up against. The capacity of the emulated hardware, and therefore data that needs to be transmitted is finite regardless of the game ROM. Cover that and you are done (and even then you tend to get lag).

OpenBOR is much more complex, fully self contained and far more open ended as to what it might be running. There are literally hundreds of variables to track right out of the box, and every module works differently. Resources are loaded as they are needed for console compatibility, whereas most emulators dump everything right on the spot into RAM.  That's assuming the module itself doesn't add more of them through script. The timing is software controlled, and so on.

Short version: OpenBOR is not compatible with any "insert to get netplay" systems out there. It will have to be part of the engine or not at all. Several discussions have taken place over this. It would take a huge cooperative effort to get netplay going - simply beyond what the development team is capable of at the moment.

I don't like playing with people online anyhow :P I rather have my friends just come over so we can all hang out and spend some real time together. Or is that just how things use to be :(

online games are where its at im out the past this is 2012.. andi think open bor iz a grate place to go where u never seen n games befor... ive been long here frm the start seen it all change.. :'(

^ wut? What if the netplay was added from outside? if that makes any sense, like (re)building the engine around one mod in order to allow netplay. A feature like that probably wouldn't work as something standard but what about outside of that, as part of a specific mod. I'm certain that has probably been discussed as well, just curious.
