New Administrator
« on: August 13, 2009, 09:35:22 am »
Due to continuing growth and the partial retirement of a few staff members, Lavalit is in need of another Administrator.

If you are interested, please post here. But before you do, here are the requirements:

1. Professionalism: Separation of personal feelings from running the forum is tantamount. Using myself as an example, I have to defend Dreamcast development even though I personally hate the thing. It also means doing things that might not be popular or easy.

2. Time: You need to be around enough to do the job. If you are only able or willing to log in once a month, this probably is not the thing for you.

3. Grammar: This is absolutely NOT an option. As enforcers of posting standards, Administrators must set an example themselves. Net speakers need not apply.

Duties are:

  • Mediation of disputes.
  • Enforcing of forum policy.
  • Answering technical questions.
  • Assisting SX with technical maintenance.
  • Managing the file sharing system (approval/denial of uploads, keeping records, etc.)
  • Taking care of user requests (name changes, post deletes, etc.)
  • General forum management. Thread moving, cleaning, back ups, topic control, and so on.
  • Setting the tone; i.e. to provide leadership and direction. Lavalit is worlds away from most communities, and this is one of the reasons why.

Think you can do all those things? Sign up here and the current staff will mull it over.

Thanks,
DC

Even though I want to help you DC on balancing and regulating the forums but I past the offer to Bloodbane since he know more about OpenBor than anyone else.

I just want to be the guy who likes to mediate the situation.

Too bad i have not the necessary technical knowledge to do that. I could only help to moderate discussions and helping users who have requests. Definetely not enough experience to become an admin, maybe just a moderator.

I like a lot the three points over there, if i should make a "number 4" i'd write "respect of all users and their opinions".

"respect of all users and their opinions".

That falls under Professionalism. It also is a big part of what I meant be "Set the tone".

My primary goal when I took up the admin reins was to destroy the "vet" vs. "noob" mentality that was big at the time.

I'd like to think I was successful, but keeping a community of diverse opinions on track without being a dictator takes constant work.

That takes a lot more then just going around dropping the hammer. You have to be direct, honest, and yes, a little brutal now and again, but NEVER uncivil about it. At the same time, you must help any way you can and show through action that you are here to make things the best they can be for all members.

Maintain those things, and the good people will follow you. Not just on a forum, but life in general.

This is a great idea, I was going to PM you Damon and Ox about this matter, as i feel an extra moderator/administrartor is essential...
I do not have the tecnical hability to be an administrator, the new administrator must know the engine like the palm of his hand, must be a hero memeber and must know how to code IMO....
I think one of the oldies must do the work... but i dont know

I agree with you in every single letter up here, it is nice sometimes to meet someone who see things like you.

I never understood the nOOb question, and i must admit that it exists only on foreign communities, in Italian forum if you insult a newbie you get the same ban as if you insult the user with 3 million of posts...

If there is some kind of poll i would vote for BloodBane too, he is prepared and quite gentle.

partial retirement of a few staff members

If I may ask, who is retiring- I know SX is looking to leave at a certain future point.

I agree, someone who's been around the scene awhile would be a good choice. Bloodbane would be good, assuming he would want the honor or be able to be on enough. Being an admin you'd have to be:

Easy-going,
even-handed,
put the job before your personal opinions,
able to make tough decisions including things that others might not like (it's not a popularity contest, it's a responsibility),
available.
Basically, it takes a certain kind of person to be able to do it. I wouldn't want the job myself.

I think Bloodbane is really a great option, he allways help me with all my "problems" and i think is a good person and he could be a good admin.

But first of all, we dont know if he want/can be an admin :(

I made a poll about BB to be admin. Vote Yes and he will eventually be a administrator (maybe). I wish i could though. I have infinite times much more respect here then what i do with a program known as "MUGEN"

Im also overly partial to the dreamcast... so that wouldnt be good. But I am very good with kids, and I love long walks on the beach. Elect me, and I swear NOTHING will be accomplished! Thats my promise to you!  :cheers!:

Vote Kolbek...because hey... he'd vote for you! ;)
