Moonstone demo
« on: August 03, 2010, 09:15:48 pm »
I made small demo of Moonstone which im making now slowly, its just one stage, nothing complicated but might be fun for some people. Here is PC and PSP version:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GOJWP6N2
http://www.mediafire.com/?f5wb2r56tzkegy0

Just move Paks folder to PC or PSP ,depends on which platform you want to play.

Youve got 5 knives only(up+attack) ,you can have more, you must pick them up.
Have fun.
Here is video :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipE139N6Aa8&fmt=18#ws

If You want 2 player game on one PSP just keep pressing R button when browsing menus to enter select screen with both players. For one player game press L or start button.

Here is original version from Amiga:

Looks kinda like a Castle Crashers type mod. I'll try it out later.

Aaah, nice small demo! Just simple beat'm up but it's quite fun.

You need better AI if you want to replicate the enemies shown in the video. Chasez is a must judging from the video.
Other enemies such as Wild Boar and Troll require script.

BTW the video makes me want to laugh . I know it's not meant like that, but I get impression that player succeeded getting moonstone although he's been killed by various enemies .

Says who? I could throw 7 knives in a row! Let's see if I could throw more ;).
I think you meant 3 lives or 3 knives at start.

BTW please allow player to change key for start!

you can throw many knives in psp version because mp is broken there,i use mp for knives so you have 30mp and each knife throw cost you 10mp so you have to pick up knife to throw more .
I will enable start but i had to disable everything to be able to play 2 players mode on PSP.
I will make enemies as playable characters, game will be short ,only one level probably but long one.

I always in all my mods wanted to have up+attack or forward+ attack type of move but i cant do it without scripts,i trying to avoid scripts cause they use memory, would be great if this kind of attacks would be written into engine, they are like basic ones i think,up+attack, down+attack etc. Instead there are some weird like up,up move or down ,down.Or am i missing something ?
There is no downattack command yet ,or fwdattack but there is  attack + back to hit enemies behind you?
---
Is it possible to let characters pick up some items and dont pick up other items ? I dont want trolls or lions to pick up knives.
Also some option to not map button at all to anything would be nice , something like null button,so if you have psp you wont get buttons mixed up.

For 2D games, Up+attack and Down+attack are basic attacks but not for beat'm ups. As for weird, you should know about dodge ability from Streets of Rage 3. CGRemakes added this ability long time ago for any modder who wants to remake Streets of Rage. IOW it's not weird.

Yes.

TBH bwwd, how much memory would be used if you were to use script? I mean it's only simple script IMO.

I had this library of scripts in one txt file loaded by characters and it consumed memory ,i barely was able to play one player game on psp so i prefere short scripts inside of animations instead of separate txt and cmd scripts,so i have to place script in attack1 animation to check key press and forward + facing ,i tried but ive got errors i using now scripts for velocity changes mostly.

This is fun, but way too short - and too easy. I hope you'll expand the demo some more.

Oh, and some Baloks would be a cool feature.

I believe the real reason this mod is easier compared to original is because of enemy AI. In this mod (at least the one I have), enemies use random walk AI making them less dangerous even in numbers but in original, just from video we can see that enemies align themselves to player everytime giving them proper place to attack and thus making them dangerous.

1 live makes the mod hard but I rather enemy AI be upgraded instead to increase difficulty.

 No wonder.
For key press event, I suggest using key scripts.

i think ill just give them f,f move its easier.

Now you can play as balok and ratmen too,i was thinking about playin as dragon too but i have to rip his sprites first.
Its quite fun chasing lions with ratmen hes faster.
I know it might be easy to play as dragon but oh well... we will see.

New version, more playable characters, longer stage and a bit more difficult.
On psp in 2 player mode first player have to pick character first then player 2 can choose his character.
Moves are Forward,Forward,Attack for knights knife and Forward,Forward with other characters.

Thanks. This is indeed more fun and the baloks together with the trolls are quite a challenge (except you take the boar which is by far the easies character).

Yes, this one is more fun. Enemies know where to stand making it easier to hit them ;) ;D. Much fun than chasing them around.

New characters are nice, I love Balok, big and tough player.
Still, you need to give unique remaps for player. I mean I lost focus which Balok is mine when Baloks with same remap appears on screen. I figured out which one after he respawned :P.

and easiest to get crushed by tree .

I skipped missing health bar before but now that there's potion, I believe it's time for you to add health bar onscreen.
