Editing Sprites - Color problem
« on: June 29, 2012, 07:27:16 pm »
Hello everyone, iīm having some problems editing the animations sprites from the game "Rocket Viper 2" I follow the Bloodbaneīs tutorial "Offset & Onion Skining" good tutorial anyway, once i finish with the edit and i put the image edited on the game file, the sprites colors are not showing correctly and i use the same pelette that the game uses thought, here is an image of the problem

Spoiler

Iīm relly new into this OpenBor stuff but the idea that i can create my own characters amaze me. Any help will be apreciated.

I think somehow the palette is changed. Have you confirmed that the palette is exactly same?

Aso how did you exactly apply the palette?

1. I use the palette from the game data/pal.act folder.

2. Once i finish editing the image, i change it to image, mode, indexed color, choose custom palette and there i load the pal.act from the game.

Then save it as .gif or .png

Thanks for reply :cheers!:

Also your tutorials are real helpfull for starters
 Good work!! :cheers!:

Hmmm... I'm not sure about this but I have hunch that Rocket Viper 2 is in 16bit colourmode which allows each entity to use his/her/its own palette.

So I have thought that maybe the pal you used is not by Akuma at all or IOW that pal.act is just placed there without any use.

Okay, to avoid stabbing in dark, can you attach Akuma sprites in you next post? we can examine them later.

Hey Iīm wondering, is there a way to make an attack grab the enemy from distance and bring him close to you or make you go directly towards him, something like scorpion spear (Come over here!!) or just cause 2 hook.

Never used but this is the command needed,

Code: [Select]
grabin {type} {distance}

~If this command is declared, next nonknockdown attackbox makes entity grab opponent in same manor as normal grab.
0 = no effect (used to turn off grabin)
1 = Opponent is pulled in while this entity doesn't move
2 = Both entity and opponent are pulled each other splitting the distance
~{distance} controls how far entity and opponent would be when grabbing starts.
~Use this command with non knockdown attackbox of course.

Thanks BeasTie, i think i can use it for chain combos like when you land a combo at the enemy and he is too far away to be hit again, just follow up whith this move and continue comboing.

Ok now i have used the altenatepal command in the model header and attached it to the edited image and i got this:

Spoiler

Seems like the model color is ok, but the background is visible too.  :dunce:
Anyway i keep triying.

 Sorry for late reply!
I have checked Akuma's sprites and I discovered that the palette is inconsistent. sp400 & sp401 use some palette I don't recognize but the rest uses Beats of Rage palette.

You can't have inconsistency like this or you might get palette bug you posted here.

So to solve this, either get unique palette or use Beats of Rage palette and apply to EVERY sprite Akuma uses. I recommend the former although you have to be careful in getting that.

Donīt worry, I already fixed it the palette seems to be the problem. On the other hand iīm having some trouble testing things, i need something like a test level, something basic like a level and some enemies. I tryied with openborstats tool but the engine crashes and says something like "canīt compile the script!".

Anyway, thanks for your time! :cheers!:

Pause time during animation.
Is there a way to pause the time during an animation till it ends? For example, letīs say that your character do a special move and that requires a number of frames till the attack comes, so the game pauses (enemies, traps...) till the animation is finished.

I post this here because donīt want to create another thread just for a simple question, if there is a problem just tell and i move it, thanks.
