Title: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]
Post by: masterderico on August 26, 2010, 02:58:02 pm
After long months of working, i will release now!
Thanks to all who supported me, all hype, all everything.
For real, thanks.

My goal is to create a better mod than the previous, and i think Jennifer is far, far away better.
I created for me a challenge;

-Create a original game, original Story, original moves, also the game has its own theme made by music producers, and i spend long time to put the right sound effects and BGM, to create the atmosphere.
Was hard, and i need your feedback to always improve my games.

Thanks guys, i hope you enjoy the game! ;)

MD

Is this the last version ? Megauplad link works ok.
I would like it to be a little bit faster cause action is slow and from teaser (not the last one) it looked like fast game, running move could be a bit faster and some sounds are from original bor, like land from falling sound and it kinda stands out. Also chain combo attacks could be faster cause i press button 3 times and i attack one time.
Im not the type of person who will say awesome mod and nothing more ,i think this mod creates a disturbing feel and its ok cause its doing its job well.
I would unpack it myself and change delay in chain attacks to make it more dynamic.
I think also "beat.wav" in sounds folder could be replaced by something else cause its original bor sound and when its still there then it reminds of another game,i dont know if others have the same impression but i do when i hear original bor sounds in mods.

That was a decision i made, she is a monster...She is slow, but not much. Shes not a hero..I wanted to try "feel" her moves.

But thats ok, its your opinion.

EDIT:On her 3rd model she turns a little more faster.

I have to paxplode it later and change delays then ill say more cause im still editing my own mods and i sleep every second day.
I wouldnt want all this mess in my relase thread so if mods could delete some comments then it would be nice.

Agreed.

On the 3rd form of Jennifer she is more faster. Still think she is slow ?

I dont know but i like first attack from chain combo to be very fast like in capcom beatem-ups so you smash button fast and youre throwing  punch on every button press but pausetime is bigger with slower characters so they make the impression that they are slower but they still have fast chain attacks with small delays,at least first ones not 3rd one/last one.But enough technical talk.

Wow!  I was not expecting this a day early when I came to see what the forums were talking about, and now I see what's being discussed.  One of my most eagerly anticipated mods.  For two reasons.  One it is horror elements (I love horror themed things, and movies), and two it's a beat'em up game (which I also love!!).  Glad you finally completed man.  Now I got to wait a little before I can actually play it as I play mods on Wii, and that is at home right, in which I am not there....Damn lol.  Oh well.  Congrats on the mod.  You deserve it.

I m completely serious.

The controls and game-play are amazing, the concept is fun and never gets boring or repetitive.
The levels are interesting and the visuals actually make you jump.
The music adds to the atmosphere very nicely.
This game seems complete and solid. Its very original and it doesn't skimp on anything!

I cant stop playing it.

My opinion, the best

Wow, really impressive mod.  I was just looking to see if there was a trailer and all the sudden its released which was a nice surprise.  I didn't get far but thought I'd post some impressions.

The artwork and atmosphere are amazing.  You really got the feeling of a messed up horror movie down perfect.  I've seen some other gory mods but none with a real messed up disturbing feeling like this.  It all comes together really well.

The slow start and progression of adding moves add to the game and makes it feel more complete and I thought was a nice touch.  I like that the moves were done with common motions and weren't hard to memorize.  Some mods go a bit too crazy with that.

I did notice some cheapness like enemies juggling me around and maybe some things that could be touched up.  However, this is the best and most exciting mod I've seen since battletodads.

Woah, I gotta say... that was one of the best mods I have ever played. I would go as far as to say (In my opinion) it's perhaps one of the best free games of this style on the internet period.I do have some suggestions of things I would prefer though.

1. I think Jennifer should do more damage, I understand that it's all about combos but It can get a little repetitive hitting an average enemy 50 times before he dies.

2.The film grain type effect can be overwhelming at times.

But again, these are just my preferences.

You are very welcome man. I really think you should make more like this, I know it takes alot of time but it would be epic.Maybe a sequel with a male character who is somehow related.I just think that in horror the female protagonist is overdone time and time again.

About enemys juggle Jen, this only happen with one enemy: Ester. And was by purpose.

About the pm's about the story ;

SPOILER ALERT

Spoiler
-Her soul (or body?) was awake for the negative things that Roy did to her. Ok, in the episode 2 she finished him, for all the abuse.
After episode 2 you will see how the Jennifer life was. Maybe she is not so "pure".

Play again and u will understand.

Just finished the game, there's my impresions:

On the positive side the atmosphere, music and stages makes a whole experience of disturbing horror which will not let anyone unconcerned. It's a great work and I doubt there's one single person who will say the opposite.

The way you improved new attacks along the game progress as well as new Jenny models brings fresh air on every chapter and keeps you on to know a bit more about her totally addictive story, I have to say this is the first OpenBOR mod I finished on a row. I'm a damn Jenni-o-holic right know  ;D

Another thing well done is the player control itself: lots of moves without make you get a headhache. I specially like the "combo + dash + combo" sequence.

Blood. Lots of red shining beautiful hemoglobine  :eyebrow_action:

On the negative side I'm a bit dissapointed because there's so much slighthly recicled graphics from other mods, the lack of surprise it represent makes the whole game don't shine as it should do. I mean, most of us already knew how long those stages will be and how those enemies animations or attacks will be too.

Perhaps I didn't pay all the attention it deserves but I feel like missed some part of the story because there's some loose ends and I can't put two and two together. Is the spoiler on your last post the history or just some tips from you to us in order to know how things happened?

Regards.

Does jennifer use a special version of openbor?  The way you packed it with an executable would suggest it is but I'm not sure.  Mainly curious to know how this would work on other platforms like wii.

The game is hard and challenging - If you don't know the strategies for bosses and enemies.
But if You know - it's real fun

Finally completed this mod. The long way for completion - sometimes the distortion visaul effect made me dizzy.
But I always wanted to return to the game and always made it. Also such effect with distortion makes game more psychedelic and scary.
I cannot say, that it is better than Your previous games. But not because of your work, but beacuse it is another genre, very seldom - horror, which makes game hard to compare with shiva & Lisa 3 for example. I have not seen any real horror beat-em-up except splaughter house. (Nightslashers X, Mutation Nation are more slashers, than horror), so genre is goal!
Concerning combos and loops - yeaahhh it's good. There are different ways to torment and kill yur enemy. The combos are easy to make, but hard to master - which is also good.
Yeah! I liked the atmosphere, sound, music, graphic (except overuse of distortion in some places), animation. Also various strategies for different enemies are also good (Damned Testaments and Babes =))
Atmosphere - really good. I played first part of the game on the laptop, in the attic of the practically lone house in the forest. Of course at night - yeaahhhh, i felt - the game has atmosphere! =) It's good horror
As for me the story is not clear everywhere, can You tell me more about plotline of the game?
As for disadvantage - sometimes game seems to be repeative

good luck for you in next works

I know exactly what he was going for when he made this game. I just played through it some more...not completed it yet, but I play a little more every night. Its very ADDICTIVE!

visuals a 10
Game play a 8
Music a 9.5
story 9

The Levels are very interesting and the creativity that was put into this game was great! Shot guns, chainsaws, visual effects, the game never gets old. I was left wanted to see "Whats going to happen next"? This game is eye candy and like I stated befor, really makes you jump.

The controlls are good, but some enemies are hard to hit example "the baby" what a pain in the ***. Other then that, the spiked walls, the baseball bat splattering, the visuals and sounds just keep this ride going strong! Im very excited to see whats next! You can tell he put countless hours in this game. A console version would be a miracle.

Perhaps there's a way to optimize the game in order to play it on fat PSP, there's some stuff on the pak which is not needed.

About the damn baby, I just massively hadoken'ed it (>vJ). Same for the spikes on level 3(?)
Oh, just for your known masterderico: on the nailed bat stage, when you smash enemies to the wall, I saw a normal enemy (the one who looks human) walking between the panel and the blood splattered corpses. Maybe it was a random mistake but I feel like it's better to share it with you.

I dont think that will help "if" is possible to remove some staf
because the game run in 32bit!
I?m not so sure but i think that sould be a big problem for the fat psp.

So, what exactly are the issues preventing it to run on a FAT PSP?

I tried running it on OpenBOR v3.0 Build 2851 and this in on Log:

0x01ea:  Unable to load file 'data/chars/misc/5f.gif'

Please tell me this can be fixed.

I really dig this bloody masterpiece you have composed here, Sir. Cheers! :cheers!:

I don?t understand, way you people don?t understand that some mods can?t run
on some consoles??So,i don?t think that the athor is stupid and can?t  "fix" that
what you think "may can be fixed" and then run on this consoles!

Finaly i think every try to remove or change somethig in the game is just a try to
destroy the game and ignore how the athor will like the game looks like!

magggas, "some" mods cant run on some consoles? How about pretty much ALL the mods cant run on consoles. If you dont count the older mods that have been played to death. Its not that people dont understand that, its that these games were meant to be played with a controller or controllers on a console with friends. I love this game, but playing it on my PC keypad, SUCKS! Seriously.
And honestly, we have the capabilities to get the majority of these games to play on a home system, we just haven't had the chance to do this, and thats not a crack at anyone, but its the truth. So yeah, "cant" at the moment, but "can" when 3.0 gets finished on systems.

Personally...I think the experience would completely rock on a console. I mean, I think more people would get involved with openbor. Its one thing to play a game on your pc. "Oh cool, were did you download that?" But to play it in a room on a big tv with a bunch of people, you know...your own game, that you made. I think that experience alone is like 50% of the joy involved in doing all this.

Word.

Even the huges crap I did on the good old BOR engine gives a bunch of laughs to my friends and I (I mean before the kill bill one)

I don't think trying to make it run onto a lower system mess the author work, if he/she let us do that, of course. The fact is gamepads rocks for this kind of games (I always play OBOR mods with the wired 360 controler)

Yea man,i know and i?m with you on this!!
I just said(mean) that for now with this engine we have, the
athor have to choose :sacrifice the console port and make a cool game or
make a less cool game that works in consoles. And i mean the people have to respect the athors choose.

My self ,for my new mk mod, i was so try to stay in v2 engine and make it work in must consoles , but i choose to sacrifice some consoles and jump in to v3 engine
because i need some new thinks of the engine toi make the game more cool!
(So far is working in psp fat  ;))

And finaly, every gamer spend a lot of money for this hoby!so,i dont think is so
hard to by tow controlers for pc  ;)

Okay, that's not true at all.  Seriously, there are only two consoles with 2.0 ports that don't have complete 3.0 ports: Dreamcast and Xbox.  The Wii is a console, for instance, and there are no mods at all that don't run fine on it.  The Pandora is a console, and it can run any currently released mod just fine as well.  Not to mention that OpenBOR v3.0 has been ported to TWICE as many consoles as 2.0 was!  Where do you see a 2.0 port for Wii or Pandora or Wiz or Dingoo or Symbian?  There aren't any!

Just because Dreamcast and Xbox are the consoles you happen to have doesn't mean that OpenBOR v3.0's console support isn't excellent.  It just means that you have bad luck.

The Pandora, or Wiz or Dingoo or Symbian? Dude seriously? I have never even heard of these systems. With the exception of the Wii, I dont even see the significance of porting it to these obscure systems.
And obscure or not, I stated "ported to Consoles", not hand held devices, like whatever the dingoo or symbian is. The pandora is a seventh-generation "handheld" game console and miniature computer, and the Wiz apperantly is another handheld videogame console.

Personally, Im not interested. Wake me up when the Xbox, DC, or Atari 2600 can play these newer games.

It obviously looks like Kolbek only wants outdated commercial consoles to be supported.  Dreamcast is great but not really the best way to play homebrew these days.  Wii is the most easily hacked console these days with most mature hacking community so makes sense to develop for that.

With the other consoles you're missing out on the open part of openbor.  They are the most popular homebrew systems which have communities supporting development of open source programs.  The gp2x version stopped controlling properly a while ago put some of my pushing for that might have led to the versions for wiz  (with caanoo out now) and pandora which are currently supported well.  A lot of work or enhancements done on the ports of openbor can be used for other ports and even pc version.

Consoles can be portable and are generally considered a fixed hardware platform.

I'm waiting for 2600 support too....

Anyway I want to see if this can get working on the wii and will try a few different versions of openbor.  We need people on as many platforms as possible enjoying quality mods such as this.

Outdated consoles rock.

It's easy for you to say that!  Seriously, have you ever tried actually developing software for the Dreamcast?  It's the worst SDK I've ever seen, period.  If you really want decent Dreamcast or Xbox support, implement it yourself.
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC Version][+OST]
Post by: jbrodack on September 06, 2010, 06:52:31 pm
I can confirm that at least with build 2848 jennifer does work on the wii and is really cool played on the console.

Also, I agree that oudated consoles do rock.  A few months back I got a vectrex and I do enjoy dreamcast.  However, its not completely fair to expect all current builds of homebrew software like this to be ported and working perfectly on outdated consoles.  Its not as easy to develop and test out software for outdated consoles like dreamcast which is why there hasn't been much activity in the free dreamcast homebrew scene.  There are still some commercial indie games that come out for it though.  With homebrew wii has more support and that's where more of the devs have gone.  I'm sure we all love classic gaming here but software still being developed like openbor is more at home on current generation hardware.

Hi there masterderico, i'm from russia and i registered on this site just because of u. I wanted to thank u for one of the best platformers-slashers i ever played! when my friend gave me the trailer i was really shocked... this is something that goes far away from many of the games that people and bad *** companies creating for pc now. I c that u tried to make this game with ur heart, and i can tell u that u succeded on 200%. I would likle to thank u again for what u've done... this is really so great and i'm so impressed that i don have words in english to express fully what i think about that game))

By the way i wanted to ask u some questions bout moves. Do u have some kind of move list? Coz sometimes i can do moves that usualle can be done only during combo. For example i found move "D,D,A(down, down, attack)" and she make move like if i do A,S, the second thing i noticed is U,U,A that is a kick move, and some time i managed to make kick forward move, umm u know when she kick the enemy forward after AAAA combo. How can i do that??(1) And the second question is how can i do that jump somersault kick? I did it once after some combo and now cant repeat lol  (2) so that was the second question and the third one is umm.. are there any special abilities that u didnt explained in tutorials? like those? (1st n 2nd question)
well i hope u'll answear soon. and thank u again for this game.  :cheers!:

Hi brother, i have no word to thank you, im glad, really.

Yes, i tried to create something deep with my heart...Its not just a "game", is my inspiration.

About the moves, the last kick from the basic combo you can perform only when u do a combo, i never noticed she perform in other ways...!!!

If u press the movelist button, u can se all the moves! But here is the moves anyway ;

The combos are;

A,A,A,A
A,S
A,A,S
A,A,A,S
A,A,A,A,S

I think the move you want is the chain of the last basic combo: A,A,A,A,S

Yes, there is some moves i not listed.
UU + A,
DD + A,
A,then Knife Buton

Thanks again for your sweet words! :)

No way bro...memory issues, and i cant remove Jen models...

You can play the PC version!

ITs probably cause youre using scripts folder and library of scripts in txt file which is loaded in header. This consumes a lot more memory than using scripts within animations ,i learned my lesson on marvel mod and i wont do it again.
In marvel demo i could use only one character (barely !) on phat psp but in current mod i managed to do 10 characters and its working on phat so it speaks for itself.

Yes, this + 10 weapons.

I removed two and works, but i cant do that...

I'll check the scripts thing, thx for the tip!
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]

yeah im using them inside animations with @script or @cmd and i dont use any updae scripts which run all the time or scripts in headers ,i try to avoid that as much as its possible and finding other ways to do some things.

which run all the time or scripts in headers ,i try to avoid that as much as its possible and finding other ways to do some things.

Update scripts can slow you down, but header scripts are a good thing. You're going to find out over time that writing scripts directly to the entity is a bad, BAD, idea. For starters, scripts written into the entity are run on every frame. That's more resource intensive, not less.

Besides that, the memory loss isn't not because you are using @cmd, it is likely due to using a single library file filled with functions that not every model needed.

This is where the #include concept comes in. You break your functions down into individual files, then create an animation script for each entity that includes the functions it needs by filename, and nothing else. So like this...

die0001.h
Code: [Select]
function die0001()
{
...blah blah I'm a function blah....
}

live0001.h
Code: [Select]
function live0001()
{
...blah blah I'm a function blah....
}

animation.c
Code: [Select]
#include {path to die0001}
#include {path to live0001}

You give the entity animation.c as it's animation script, and now you have access to the functions die0001 and live0001 the same as if you had written them directly into animation.c file. Maybe another entity needs die0001, but not live0001, so you give it an animation script that only includes die0001.

This lets you build up a nice library of centralized scripts, avoids writing them into the entities (which again can slow down the module) while at the same time keeping memory down because it is easy to only give an entity what it needs.

This also works for the functions themselves. If one function needs another to work, #include can take care of it. View any of the recent script files I have posted and you'll see what I mean.

Here is an example: (http://www.caskeys.com/dc/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/bind0010_0001.pdf) Pay attention how this function is using others, and how they are called in at the top.

They arent good thing if i have 20 script CMD's in txt file but im onlu using vel and anim CMD, i dont think its a good idea unless you will make specific txt file only with velocity script and changing nimation script, dont put stuff which arent used by this particular character.
And there is more memory lost because of huge library of scripts in header of drum barrels or other things which dont need so much scripts for sure.
I read some of your posts about resource heavy CMD scripts but so far PSP doesnt have any slowdowns so im ok with that.
BTW how did you compared resource usage with CMD and scripts written directly into animations ?
I know what you mean with includescripts ,its a good idea but i dont know, loading something in header just scares me after marvel mod.
How much more memory will use loading external txt files instead of having command in animation itself ?Im talking about memory, not slowing down the game .
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]
Post by: Orochi_X on October 22, 2010, 07:40:37 pm
It saves a huge amount of memory. Trust us , we know about these things  ;)

To answer your question....

All those @cmd scripts actually get joined together to make a giant script. Regardless of if the entity is in play or not. This is one thing that leads to extended loading times on startup. As you know , great big reams of script can be resource heavy.

Using #include the way DC described ensures that only a particular script is loaded when the particular entity needs it.
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]
Post by: bWWd on October 22, 2010, 07:56:14 pm
Yeah its kinda logical that includescript is good idea but using huge library of scripts in one file instead of includescripts should be discouraged
--
Best way would be loading characters in mid game but i didnt tried that, only npcs to play co-op.
Loading only chosen character would save memory for sure but how to select then different chracter ,he wont showup as selectable when you will continue  :hmm:
A bit offtopic  ;D
Aren't cmd scripts joined too into big script in log ? ???  I thought maybe cmd scripts are just loaded once in header but scripts in animations are treated as separated and joined, i dont know, where is advantage ?
cmd scripts arent run on every frame? So script in anim which has frame == 3 as "if" runs actually on every frame ? And cmd script on 3 frame runs only on this 3rd frame ?

Yeah , loading only the required entities will also cut down memory usage. That's how I do it now. I script my own select/continue/everything else screens.
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]
Post by: bWWd on October 22, 2010, 08:27:19 pm
what if you want to continue with another character ?
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]

Yeah , loading only the required entities will also cut down memory usage. That's how I do it now. I script my own select/continue/everything else screens.

I only allow choosing new characters after a continue in score attack mode as the story mode forces you to use certain teams.

You need atleast 1 playable character loaded at all times to prevent OpenBoR from crashing. I call it "dummy".

In my case , he's an invisible entity only used for triggering scripts and sometimes decoration (animated bg items in my scripted menu's etc.)

skipselect dummy dummy dummy dummy. Forces players to choose him. Normally , a spawnscript switches the model to whoever the player chose in my scripted select screen. If you use a continue , a different script is triggered. It's another variation on my menu scripts. A sprite is displayed that looks like the characters icons , press left/ right to change the sprite or a button to load the character.

At the moment , it looks a lot like the normal continue stuff but I want to change it. Mostly because I'm building up quite a large cast of characters but also because I might aswell make it look different!

Masterderico...

I already said it once and I will say it again...This is one excellent monster of a game you have created, I enjoyed every minute of it. However, credit is due where it is due, and I think you know exactly what I mean.

I don't want to say you stole, definitely not...but Ella sprites "from mugen" were made by somebody like you and me who finds fun and joy in these things. This person is known in mugen circles as Aiduzzi. Also, as someone two posts ago pointed out, some sprites you somehow recycled from a Crisi Evil mod, but they actually were also made by another living, breathing average joe who some people might now as Borghi.

Now I know its a little late to bring this to any relevance, but again...credit is always due where it is due, and people are starting to notice some of your work on this game is not entirely yours. I think you may have started to see some comments related to this matter on your Youtube trailers for the game, and just today a thread discussion opened about this matter on Mugen Fighter Guild forums.

http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=121956.0 (http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=121956.0)

Honestly man, you and I both know you are not gonna burn for this, but its as simple as just respecting other work that eventually put some shine into your own work....After all, those other people seem to share the same passion for graphical gore as you do and without them your work would probably not be complete today.

That's all I have to say. Whatever you chose to do is fine by me.

Can't wait to see what type of mod you will make next.

One question;

-You guys give the credits to all official chars you rip and edit ?

Well its too late now, im sorry. And i never said Jennifer is my draw, i told that i created her MOVES.
Everyone here know this is Ella sprites.
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]

The 60% from the stages and chars i am using for my mod is from  different mugen
games but edited by me too and the rest is my creations.

Sure i cant know all this guys who is created this staff.I know only some of them
and sure a will credit this guys.

So far some of thes sprites creators is good and correct guys and have no problem
and some of them dont accept this.

Quote
-You guys give the credits to all official chars you rip and edit ?

So far no one of this guys is answered this question when i ask them.

Anyways,i respect everyones work and i will never try to sell someones as my work!

I think all this "fights" bettwen the creators or the communities happens just
because some guys have lost the poind of why they make this games.
So,for me the real point is to make a game for me and for others just to
have fun ,but some guys they make a game or just sprites for a game forget this
and they think they are famus and big and all other people must respect them for this and bla bla bla..and this gus is just forgot your question above
masterderico .

This is so sad but only people like this i cant respect or credit.

Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]

And that is why mugen is so terrible and has so few good games. Mostly because of guys who edited and ripped SNK, CAPCOM etc sprites, getting all pissy because someone edited their sprites.

I know that a lot of so called original work used the basis of SNK/CAPCOM, ARC SYS etc sprites, It's plain to see.

That why opensource is the best, all these little kiddies getting upset because someone edited "their" sprites, meh. It's like making a car but then getting upset when someone wants to drive it. I can't stand most Mugen communities because of it, I thought many years ago they were just teenagers or something but it really seems to me as if most of them are just angry whinny, frail, castrated, life unsuccessful and terminally single man-babies.

At least masterderico knows how to make a proper game that people will enjoy respect and play.

Wow ! To the creator of this game, I was simply amazed at the trailers, the originality and the hard work you put into making this game.

The music is outstanding, and you've even included the OST !

I hope you stick to your creativity, and continue to make games similar to this one. If you have plans for a sequel to Jennifer maybe you could title it " Jennifer 2: The cursed one ", and have it center around how a once normal girl became possessed by a supernatural force that gave her supernatural powers she did not want to have.

That's awesome masterderico, I can't wait to see what you have in store for all of us before you release Jennifer 2.

I know that you probably felt that disabling the use of cheats in Jennifer would make the game more challenging, but I miss the fact that I am not able to have infinite credits. I enjoy playing the game you made very much, but the number of credits is very limited and I have to start from the last stage and level I died in. Thankfully OpenBor has an autosave feature that I use, so I can load the last stage that I died in and hopefully get by on one life to make it on to the next stage and level of the game.

Just a suggestion, for the next Jennifer game you have planned.. maybe you can add some bonus items like one ups to earn extra lives (a cool shrunken voodoo head) would look cool as a one up item. Also adding extra credit items for pickup after beating some enemies would help greatly with continuing the game after you die so that you don't run out of all your available credits too quickly.

Also, another interesting suggestion I have for a new special move for Jennifer in your next game would be to have her head spin around while she screams at her enemies causing them to be knocked back and lose some health.

Yet another cool move you could have Jennifer do is hold out her hand towards her enemies, while a black mist rises from the ground below her feet and takes shape in the form of a hell hound that attacks her enemies' at her command.

One more special move would be to have her long black hair trap her enemies and strangle them to death.

Another cool move would be to have her rip and tear apart her enemies with her bare hands. These are just some suggestions I have for some special moves that I think would look cool in the next game.
Just something to think about and take into consideration if you like.  :cheers!:

Hi there, guys!

It' s been a long time no see! Two days ago a friend of mine, told me about a game named Jeniffer he would like to play that on Dreamcast. He also told me that seemed to be BoR!

Thats how I knew about this masterpiece! A horror 2D beat' em up! Its amazing!
Great work, Drico! Keep it up!

Congratulations to all OpenBoR comunity for one more killer shot or should I say 'STAB'!

I couldn't play Jeniffer much becaus this game didn' t work on XboX neither Linux. I' ll try with the most recent Linux binaries right now.

I'll download the other MODs, but Jeniffer is one I really would like to play with the lights turned off, sound at max volume!

Best,

. Paulo

Don't know if PSP version will work on DINGOO, but if you can, masterderico, please make it work on DINGOO.
By the way, Dingoo A320 has only 32Mb, Jennifer needs about 55 to 77Mb.

You can use swap to make it run on dingoo. The problem is the mod is 32bit which means you can run pretty slow.

Some guy from http://a320.emulate.su said, perhaps the problem is in the resolution ( Dingoo resolution is 320x240).

Yes, the resolution is probably the problem.  I don't think the Dingoo can handle mods at resolutions greater than 320x240.

PC version works fine in psp except in certain fases where framerate drops badly, it feels like with some changes it all should work nicely.

PSP SLIM version done!

Please moderators, accept!  :)
Well, I sure can't find the PSP download anywhere on LavaLit's site, which is too bad considering that Jennifer has WAY more going for it than any of the other OpenBoR game's I've tried.  But thank the Germans - they have it!
http://members.ps3-tools.de/PSP_BOR/Jennifer_PSPslim_By_MD.rar (http://members.ps3-tools.de/PSP_BOR/Jennifer_PSPslim_By_MD.rar)

That said, I can't verify that it's MasterDerico's OFFICIAL PSP release, but it DOES work on my PSP 3000.  And having said that, the OpenBoR version included in that link takes a few minutes to load the PAK, so I had to bump the d-pad a couple times to keep my PSP from sleeping.  Playing it with version 3353 significantly reduced that time, but Jennifer still suffered from considerable slow down in places using either version.  But until LavaLit posts the definitive release, I just wanted to say that it's easy to get Jennifer working on your PSP (slim).

Fantastic work, by the way, MD.  I would say that Jennifer deserves to be at the top of every OpenBoR user's download list, but considering all the younger players whose minds and hearts it'd screw up. . .
Maybe we'll just call it a top download for those of us who are no longer impressionable.  ; )

This mod is incredible. Things improved severely in openbor abilities since my time (2004) in original BOR modding.

1)What is supposed to be the boss of first episode?
2)The chainsaw has a very short range. Is good against the hospital boss, but useless against normal enemies: run and charge is safer.
3)How can I fight Manor? They are ranged and I can't avoid them when they are many.

#2. Not quite, it works great against normal enemies. It requires skill to use this weapon.

#3. Jennifer has plenty of moves and some of them are ranged attack. You could use these to give hit them from far.

I like it very much. Dash attack, grab special, rib burst, upercut, ground burst! It's simply awesome!

It's awesome how you can chain attacks, and it seems deliberate since enemies have huge HPs with is wonderful!

I play this in psp an run marvelous,  I dont like the sprites  you use of rikuo, anita, jojo BA, and guilty gea but is fine
you have good ideas for games my friend please make a jennifer 2
and  a questions:
- how select a stage, number of lives,  and other options?
-jennifer is a only game of your make?
- have more games for psp?
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]
Post by: masterderico on January 30, 2012, 08:01:49 pm
-No, you cant select lives or stages, but some dude made a trainer, look on goggle.

-No, this is another nice game i made;
http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php/topic,3202.0.html

-You can use the bor.pak on the psp, runs great.

And thx for your feedback! But the game has alot of edited sprites, and Jennifer 2 is about 90% of original edited sprites.

Its amazing, so good, i cant belive how good this thing is, some messed up wierdness of joyfull blood filled love right there, I love it, cant wait for jennifer 2, on the downside, this is the only time I have felt bad to be owning a psp phat... Still is fine to play on pc with psx pad, more than fine, I like the fact it has some challange to it as well rather than just giving you infinite continues, so you actually gotta work for it. Cant wait for part 2!

Dear masterderico,

your game is one of the best games I've ever played, it is the first where combos and special moves don't matter at all, it's the athmosphere and the story that really matters.

I love everything in this game, expecially sound effects and voices. Music help you enter more in this nightmare, and if you think that I love horror movies and gore, you can understand how much I love it.

For me this is a masterpiece. I read that you are working on Jennifer 2? I am looking forward to play it.

:cheers!:

this is an absolutely fantastic mod!  the story is engaging, the move set is vast, the artwork is suitably creepy yet with plenty of color.

the first level is astounding!

i really like the way that the game eases into each new set of moves.

I have tried this game in several builds and it always let me stuck in the second level, i kill all the zombies there and then nothing happens... i keep running around and nothing happens... Whatīs wrong with this mod?
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]
Post by: Goliath on August 08, 2012, 12:41:39 am
IMO itīs a compatibility issue, donīt know exactly though, but i think that in every build some features change or get improved doing previous games not work like in the version in which they were developed.
Title: Re: Jennifer [PC / PSP Version][+OST]

This is why it's a good idea to distribute mods in an archive with OpenBoR included, rather than just the .PAK

@frontyiria: I'm only guessing but are you in level with some corpse on chains? In this level, you must 'do something' with that corpse before you can advance to next level. IIRC you need to get close and 'attack' it(?)
I don't know what exactly she does in 'do something' though.

If you use the OpenBOR icon that comes with the download, the game should work ok. If you canīt progress is because the programer do that on purpose.

Then you need to download the psp version of the game, there are differences in memory management between PC and PSP version.

I forgot I was even playing a 'fangame'.

There are so many absolutely terrible BoR games with bad controls or other areas that make the games unplayable.

But Jennifer... It IS perfect. Sure, I got my *** kicked (on the spiky wall in case you asked lol) and didn't even get to complete the game so I still have more to see, but what I DID see was excellent. This game made me generally freaked out which is exactly what I wanted in a game that looks like this :)

You managed to make pixels scary, and for that, you are God! lol ok maybe not God, but I really really liked it!

Those evil chicks that have that eerie laughter when they spawn or when you die? Yeah, those chicks freaked me out! lol They're annoying to fight too but they're one of the most awesome enemies in the game.

The children's sound effect was pretty creepy as well!

I didn't like that baby enemy. It does a LOT of damage. That's perhaps my only real enemy complains, except maybe those weird panda things  What was the deal with the pandas?

But yeah, the enemies were just brilliant and the bosses were very cool as well, although I lost a lot of lives before realizing how to kill that boss that you have to lead onto the spinning blades  I'll perhaps last longer next time now that I know what to do to him.

I wish there was an infinite lives cheat just so I could see all of the levels because I do die a lot (don't worry, your game isn't too difficult, I'm just a very bad player. I suck at every game I play, it's kind of a curse lol) and it's a shame 'cause I saw some levels in the trailer that looked so good and I'll likely never get to play them myself lol.

Here's how much I like it: I HATE games that only let you have one character. I like having numerous characters to play as. Upgrading them the way Jennifer upgrades doesn't count as numerous characters for me. However I loved this game so much that I didn't even care that I only had one character to play as because she was genuinely awesome and her upgrades were done perfectly!

If I was to ask ANYTHING, it would be that you make another horror game similar to this one :) I really love your work. Perhaps make a series or something (yes more characters would be nice too hehe) The style of this game was excellent and so if you make any more horrors, I'll definitely download them if they're the same standard as this one. For me, this game beats any other mod on this forum so far.

8/10!

And with that said, I'm going to go play it x)

Download page is here:

http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=94

Just click the 'Jennifer_By_MasterDerico.rar' to download. :)

It comes with the whole BoR and I've found that it only works if you let it have it's own BoR. I moved the .pak file into my other BoR and it crashed after the opening cutscene each tie lol. Might have just been me though.
