Theater setup
« on: June 06, 2008, 04:00:53 pm »
To give the most neglected section of the board a little love, I will be hopefully posting some pics of my new toy once I get it the rest of the way setup. It certainly isn't audiophile equipment, but I couldn't be happier with my setup. I am not much of a fan of the "Home Theater in a Box" systems, since they tend to be rather cheap and crappy sounding, but I had heard such good reviews of the Onkyo HT-SR800 (http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=HT-SR800&class=Systems&p=i), I decided it was worth the $310 + $90 shipping (Ebay, brand new) to give this system a whirl. Though it is considered a HTIB system, I wouldn't really put it in that category. Basically, it is an independant receiver and speaker system, that they have put together. It doesn't have a DVD player, but that's not a biggie, since I already have one. It has 7.1 sound, with all the bells and whistles of the latest technology (no upscaling, though, HDMI is only passthrough). I don't have HDTV yet, just a 51" rear projection TV, so at least for now, the negatives of the system are not important. I will need to get the speakers mounted, and I plan on making some speaker stands for the front, so once that is all done, I will see if I can get some snapshots. For now, it is in my living room, but once the basement gets finished (who knows when that will be), I will have a little more of a dedicated theater room that I can cusomize a bit more.

Most, if not all of us are techno-geeks, so there must be some killer setups out there.

Wish I actually had a real home theater. It's just a big screen (non-HD) TV with a bunch of systems hooked into it. =P

Still, I love looking at other's rigs. Makes it easier for me to dream of the day.
