Can OpenBOR work on PS3?
« on: June 03, 2009, 07:02:53 pm »
Here's the question: Can OpenBor be portable to PS3? I wonder if it can. I was planning to burn mods to any platform. Well I haven't done making mods to platforms.

You mean can OpenBOR be ported to PS3 .

I know SX made an Ubuntu version a long time ago, but I never followed up on it...

It won't work through the PS3 instantly - as in, you can't just access it through the XMB, you'll have to install a Linux partition and all that stuff. I haven't tried use OpenBOR on the PS3 myself, so I can't really tell you more than that.

Plus, I believe the PS3 OpenBOR was made for Ubuntu, and since I use Yellow Dog on my PS3, that probably is gonna make it a bit more difficult for me to try.

I beleive it would be possible to port it to the PS3, but as NickyP said, you'd need to do it under Linux. What sucks, is that the slim models no longer support the installtion of linux, unless there is some hack, I'm not aware of.

 You make me laugh on this one, Phemt. At first, when I first started to make this topic, I thought PS3 can work on OpenBor, but probably I reversed the names that work (in "zig-zag"). I just changed it already.

I just got a PS3 a few days ago and got home. I tried PS3 for the first time with Super Street Fighter IV. Now I wonder how I can install OpenBor mods to PS3 maybe just like Wii.

At the time of this writing, OpenBOR hasn't been ported to PS3.  There was a PS3 Ubuntu port a while back, but Sony removed the ability to run Ubuntu a few months ago. So there's no working port right now.

To run the existing PS3 OpenBOR port, yes.  There's a non-Linux PS3 exploit out now, but PS3 homebrew is currently stuck with an illegal SDK like Xbox homebrew is.  It's best to wait until a stable homebrew SDK is finished.

Whats the point if you have a PC and gamepads.
Only advantage is on PSP where openbor is portable and can be played in a car for example or in bus or anywhere outside where is no electricity but other that that i see memory problems and development slowdowns because of ports to every console out there ,because one or 2 persons whine about console port everything else have to wait,i honestly never liked it.
I wouldnt play openbor on my ps3 on xbox360 on xbox on wii or anyhing besides computer and PSP(or give me any other portable device which play mods and doesnt have memory problems then ill switch in a heartbeat).
Is this really needed?
Laptop is cheaper solution for semi portable openbor gaming .
Even installing linux on ps3 will make it like computer ,it wont be ps3 ,you wont be able to play ps3 game and switch to gim or whatever ,youre choosing operating system at the beginning and thats it.
I had PS3 but didnt understood advantage of having ability to install other OS when hardware was locked anyway and it was slow as old computer in linux,it didnt used its graphic processors so what was the point i dont know, its a sony mystery.

For many of us, playing games on consoles like the Wii or PS3 is a better experience.  Even with a gamepad, playing OpenBOR on a PC feels like just another computer activity, not much different from surfing the web or checking email or coding.  Playing mods in a different room on an actual television feels more legitimate.

Also, what memory problems and development slowdowns are you talking about?

Well I'm not a huge fan of playing OpenBoR on consoles either but there are plenty of valid reasons for it.

In my situation , my PC is in my study. A fairly small room that wouldn't comfortably fit many people. However , when I have friends round to play games , we go to my games room with all my consoles , table football and minibar.

So yeah , sit on my own and play OpenBoR on my pc or play OpenBoR with friends on my consoles? Tough choice

EDIT: Ninja'd
