PalApply released!
« on: January 16, 2010, 11:10:43 pm »
Yay! LavaLit is finally back up! :cheers!:

I know more than one person has been eagerly awaiting this, so here it is! PalApply, with the graphical interface all ready to go!

Features:
  • Obtain the palette from an ACT file (Photoshop), from a PAL (Paint Shop Pro) palette, from a GPL (Gimp) palette, or from an indexed-color image.
  • Apply to any RGB or indexed image in PNG, BMP, GIF, or PCX format.
  • Output to PNG, GIF, or PCX format.
  • When applying the palette, you can update your existing files or you can save the modified images to a different folder and/or file format.
  • Supports single-file and batch conversions.
  • Help documentation built into the program!

Also, keep in mind that you'll need the Java Runtime Environment (get it from http://java.com/download) to run this.

Questions, comments, and suggestions are more than welcome.  Enjoy! :cheers!:

Hey. I have IrfanView which can help you with "converting" (importing/exporting) the pal files for color models. Do you anything regarding IrfanView, Plombo?

Edit: I just mentioned. You should've 'stickied' your thread here. So... you can let other users take a look for a PalApply so your thread won't be lost. What do you think?

What it does is save you hours that would otherwise be spent manually changing images' palettes using Gimp (or Paint).

i have a question though. can it COMBINE palletes? for instance, using indexed images, is it possible to take two images with a different pallete, and combine the palletes, so that when you combine the images, you won't get discoloration? this seems to be the biggest problem with using sprite sheets, and IMO, it should be addressed by someone. not necesarily plombo, but anyone with the skills to do so.

PalApply doesn't actually edit palettes. However, if you want to combine palettes, PalApply is incredibly helpful. You can use GIMP to actually combine the palettes and save an image with the new palette. Once you've done that you can use PalApply to update all of your images to use the new palette within seconds by using batch mode and specifying the image you saved with GIMP as the "palette".

Good job, Plombo! I personally don't need it because I have Paint Shop Pro 8 to do all my batch palette applying (among other things), but if I didn't this would have made my day. Well done!  :cheers!:

Even better...could a mod move this thread to the Resources sub-board (where it belongs) and sticky it there?
