Martial Masters (Demo) UPDATED

In talking about obscure games in the other thread, I decided to post my WIP Martial Masters OpenBOR game in the hopes that people here would want to collaborate.

WHAT'S DONE: 
1)  logo, menus (90%)
2)  Chars - Tiger and Monk (Goresickness imported these, I updated Monk)
3)  BG - I ripped one stage from Knights of Valour

TO DO:
1)  Translate all the other characters and stages from MUGEN to OpenBOR.  I ripped the sprites for half these characters myself and made the MUGEN game.  I simply don't have the energy and time to do the OpenBOR conversion alone.

Here's the DL link for the MUGEN game -- you just need Fighter Factory to access all the sprites and save the pcx's  as gifs.

So here's my idea:

Since THE GLADIATOR hasn't been emulated, why don't we do a hybrid remake?
We can use MARTIAL MASTERS and KNIGHTS OF VALOUR sprites (we'd just have to use drawmethod to make the Martial Masters guys the same size).
Alot of the cast of Gladiator is very similar looking to Martial Masters (they were made within a year of each other).

GI JOE is 99% finished.  The main quest is basically finished (literally a couple tweaks left).  All of the bonus unlock missions are finished too, except for a new one we came up with recently that is just too cool not to include.  It's basically a Wings of Fury style mission where you have to protect the USS Flagg from Cobra bombers and an enemy warship that is launching torpedoes.  You're in the Skystriker.  We used a lot of sprites from Capcom's Carrier Air Wing for this particular mission.

Bloodbane is hard at work on his end of it, so hopefully we can release it really soon.  I'm excited about it, I've never worked so hard on a game, and probably never will again!

I really hope you dig it, can't wait to see what you think.

Back to the Martial Masters mod, I suggest putting drawmethod 200 200 under each animation for Monk and Tiger (I forgot to do this before I uploaded it).  That seems to make them small enough for a side scroller, but still crisp looking enough that you don't get sprite degradation (190 190 looks a lot worse for some reason!)

EDIT: I've played it, and it's very nice!
The barbarian enemies you used in this demo are giants in the original KOV game, right?
So, will you use smaller enemies from this game? (too small for MM characters IMO)

Another good project out of the regular "CAP/SNK/SOR" sprites :cheers!:

Yes the barbarian is from KOV.  I will use smaller KOV enemies, that was just a placeholder for the demo.  Since I released it, I made the player smaller (add drawmethod 200 200 in front of all animations).  That way the MM chars will be same size as KOV chars.

I must stress that I can't do this project alone, I'm working on Drunken Master but need collaborators for this game.

A Martial Masters mod huh? Pretty cool, I'll have to check it out later, but please tell me that you have plans for Ghost as a Playable character? If this is open for Collab, I'll get his sprites from my Mugen download of him..... at some point.

DJ,  This game is totally open for Collab.  I'm working on Drunken Master as a playable character right now.

My thought was:
PLAYABLE CHARS - Master Huang, Drunken Master, Crane (and Ghost Kick if you so desire heh)
BOSSES - Scorpion, Monk, Lotus Master

If you want to tackle Ghost Kick, then that's awesome.  Hopefully we could divide up the characters between the folks on here who want to help with this mod and make it a team effort.

For the regular enemies, we can use the KOV chars already ripped (by Burn King?) I'll include those in the next update.  Just remember to size the Martial Masters guys using drawmethod to 200 200.

IMO you need to make template character first, give him all possible burn,freeze pain anims + all attacks and start from him to make other playable characters, write down what attacks would enemies have and which pain animations all chars would need.
Then you can add new characters easier.

Good plan.  I don't know if I'm the most skilled person to make the template.  Maybe I'll finish doing the tedious work (converting Drunken Master pcx to gif, making anims and fixing offsets), and then hand him off to someone who can code him with juggles, combos and all the advanced techniques.  He should play like Wu from The Gladiator (which can be seen on YouTube videos).
