Golden Axe Remake
« on: December 09, 2007, 12:27:12 pm »
*Update* 2008-1-10

http://www.mediafire.com/?8kmhmktx0gz

Most things keep no changed.

1. Fixed bug: When cust level 3 lightning magic on stage 4, the bolts are invisible.
2. Fixed bug: The campfire on bonus stage 4 starts falling.
3. Use new feature jumpmove command. So you can flip heros in air(but not the black skeleton, I keep it no changed)
4. Slight change, speed up jumpattack animation.
5. Remove shadows when an entity is knocked down.
6. Add some loading backgrounds, not really nice, but better than nothing?
7. Add a gameover scene.
8. Speed up Death Adder's main attack, but with a longer delay when the animation is finished.
9. Change color maps for some skeletons in last stage.
10. Black skeleton's run speed changed from 22 to 26.
11. Black skeleton's run animation and back attack animation changed, with blink effect.

The newest openbor exe file for windows version:
http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=767.0;attach=695

Description
It's a full remake and enhanced version of the arcade game - Golden Axe. I've done last frame editing jobs, think it is a completed version.

Difficulties
There are 3 modes in this game.

STORY MODE
Just like the orginal game, fight through 5 main levels to hunt down Death Adder. It supports 3 players.

SKELETON MODE
Your character is a black skeleton who loses its HP per second. There's a countdown under your character's HP bar, if it reaches 0, your character will lose more HP per-second, and will die if it loses all HP. You can hit enemies to drain HP back, those gray thieves will drop skulls that rewind your countdown. This mode supports only 1 player, and you have only 1 life.

THE DUEL
In this mode your characters will be in an arena, you must kill all enemies to survive. This mode suports 3 players, and all empty slots will be filled with npc characters, no continue.

Well, that might because I can add a feature to simulate orginal game in no time.
Besides , the script engine itself saves a lot of works(but the lacking of debug abilities sometimes really drive me mad). And the game is really short(the skeleton mode is completed in 2 days, copy and edit other levels, write some scripts), so I get everything detailed.

--------

Hmm, I played through skeleton mode in 10 minutes,  it is really easy. lol compared to orginal mode.

I do think you should re upload a copy with the engine included. No build available on Lavalit will run it because of the fshadow command, and you have to compile your own to do so. Most people have no idea how to do that.

LOL! Thats what I was going to say- I tried every available new build (that supports loading screen) including using light versions and none work. It will start to load the game models & then kicks me out to the quit screen. Nice load screen.

Thanks SX you're awesome- & thank you Utunnels. I've played you're latest (and last?) build and I'm really impressed with it. I'm wondering, do you have plans to mod anything else? I would assume another Golden-Axe mod perhaps...

Not recently, I think I will mod another if I have a plan, but not golden axe.

Opps! Deleted my earlier comment. Reposted:

This is what I have been talking about the whole time.

This is what scripts can do, this is what attention to the fundamentals can do and this is what should be the future of BOR mods. UT has given us exactly what a mod should be; the original experience with EVERYTHING the original had, plus a little more. No watered down moves, no missing frames, no missing mechanics or characters who feel and act nothing like they should. Taking those basic ingredients, and then taking the time to mix it all together in a way that profit based ventures don't have the freedom to do; that's how to make a mod.

There are mistakes of course, but personally, this goes right to the top of my list, and I believe it far surpasses any previous offering.

Wow, this is one great mod. Actually, it is just like the real thing, even better in places. Only the arcade version of Golden Axe II surpasses that one I think.

This is one fantastic mod just like the original with a few upgrades but the functionality of the scripts implented in the mod make this a worthy gem.

So, this mod should go down the BOR MOD Hall of Fame for this well-excuted and crafted game.

Congratulations, Utunnels for your hard work and effort to release a masterpiece. :cheers!:

I found a weird bug. I was playing for the first time and got to the start of the 5th level. I got killed by the skeletons and changed from Ax Battler to Tyris. However, she was invisible, and couldn't attack. All there was was her shadow on the floor. When I moved her off the edge of the screen, she finally appeared (with one life left), but got stuck at the edge while the skeletons continued to hit her until she lost all her life. It then gave me the game over screen and played the ending sequence.

I played up to the second stage and killed myself in the pit repeatedly to see if the ending sequence is normal on game over. It isn't.

A weird bug, but it is a fantastic mod.
