OpenBor Tools & Programs List

This is something that gets asked often enough that we should have a list. I thought about including site resources such as pixel art, tutorials, places to download sounds or fonts, but I decided that if I did it would quickly become much larger then it needs to be. If you have any links to add or correct, please feel free to suggest them and I'll add them to the list.

Updated as of 1/4/2011

Green means it's freeware.
Orange means it's for sale.

Wow! so many tools which can be used! Thanks Fightn Words!

I think Scene maker should be added too. Unfortunately, I only know Microsoft GIF animator. Maybe Adobe Image Ready can do it too but I really have no idea how  :dunce:.

Yeah thats true but I would still recommend using D-pixed because it supports .PNG, it's freeware and more importantly you can use it with pallettes (the main reason it's on the list)!

Thats not my sprite by the way.

yeah, but The real Question is: can any1 Use it for Beats of Rage, When I load up the Pallete, the Colors change(unless photoshop changes them to then I'd go along with it), if theres a way to load the palletes without changin' the color, then ya got somptin.

I see what your saying. I don't really have Photo-shop, but if you use only one program or the other exclusively for color you probably wont have that problem (I would think, I haven't tested it myself). As I understand it pallettes are organized by different criteria- I bet a high end program like Photo-shop has those options. If thats not the case then I concede the point.

The editing options are nearly identical to D-pixed (displays & saves the pallettes the same), except you can save in more formats like .GIF- Added! Thanks bWWd.

When I load up the Pallete, the Colors change(unless photoshop changes them to then I'd go along with it), if theres a way to load the palletes without changin' the color, then ya got somptin.

But that's the point of loading palette. When you load a palette, all colors in the picture will be matched to palette. If they don't match, they'll be changed to closest color in the palette.
Why do you refuse that color change anyways?

I didn't think it was suppose to change....Once I change the color, my stages just don't look anything that they were suppose to, and There's also color changes in the sprites. If this is normal than I'll just go along wit it...

The color change is normal. However, for stage palette, you can add extra colors for the last 128 colors. That's why backgrounds don't lose much colors in mods. To be exact, backgrounds use their own colors.

The color change problem you're mentioning is the reason why modders use 16bit mode now. Not only to keep colors but also to spare themselves from making global palette.
