Review: Rage of the Streets.

Rage of the Streets isnt a bad game but id havf to say that the most work on this game was the screen backgrounds XD because they were surreal and made you fight more effectively in some cases.

The only pro with this game is just the character throws.

To the person that made this GREAT JOB ITS GREAT. :cheers!: All drinks on him tonight.

 You mean Axelblazeadam? alright. don't forget that Christuserloeser edit this mod too. Well I'm playing ver1.2 that's why.

 I haven't made detailed review for this mod but here are some points:
1. Heroes are good enough although some (including secret chars) have wrong offsets.
2. Heroes' moves are like the original game SoR3 in this case which is great. And that means the invincibility is included too. Axel's rapid punch gives him invincibility while it's a strong move making it quite cheap.
3. Secret heroes are nice addition but they need more work. And due to limited moves, it feels better to play the original heroes than them.
4. Regular enemies are like the original game except that it's not perfect due to limited engine.
5. Bosses are different from original game IMO but they surely bite! :D.
6. Shiva is tough but that's because he has invincibility during pain making it not fair :(. Mr X is the contrary, he's quite easy making him a nice refreshment after fighting Shiva ;).

I feel that rage of the streets is an excellent mod for a couple of reasons.
1.the game's engine pursues a sor2 feel, excluding the run and dodge commands (we can do without them but would be nice to have)
2.the game feels so new, a member by the name dawd i think called this sor4. I wouldn't blame him, the games feels like it was done by sega itself.
3.the music is superb, I sometimes end up humming the remix to stage 4.
4.some of the character supers don't require health making much more combo choices.
5.one of the few games with sor as its theme.
6. I can play this game with freinds for hours.

I hope some of you can agree with me on why this mod is important as it marks one of many standards as well as hold up with time against other mods. excellence from the genius minds of christuser and axelblazeadam. cheers.  :cheers!:

I enjoyed this one also. But unfortunately I believe it was set that way cause there's no energycost for freespecials when this mode was made (I think).

I think Chris will add the energycost.

I liked that mod when it first came out. It was the first time one could fight against enemies from all three SOR games in one single game. However it shows signs of age now. It lacks quite some moves, and the collision detection is rather off at times. It is also extremely unbalanced regarding enemy placement. Since Bombergames released SORR I can?t play the original ROTS anymore. HOWEVER, I?m anxiously awaiting version 2.0 ... I really hope this project will not die.

        well i'm sure rots will be optimized all round when v.2 comes out
I mean, the engine is so much better now seeing that we have supers, roll dodges, more than one special. controls will be great, enemy placement can come and go, just have to wait and see about that although I had no qualms against the games enemy placement to begin with. :) Finally, just for some reassurance elmo, the project will almost never die. especially not with a cult following status behind it. If christuser by chance comes in and says he can't finish the game, I'm sure he would open source it and have someone else finish up the game.

Yeah, I would do that.... but since I don't plan to give up, I hope to share the final product at first ;)

Btw, welcome to LavaLit, elmo & moonmaster1 :)

How to mod:
1 Pick an interesting game: There are plenty of 8-bit/16-bit classics waiting for a remake
2 Rip your own sprites & stages
3 Use a custom palette: http://borrevolution.vg-network.com/tutorial.htm
4 Check your offsets: http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php?topic=1099.0

Did you know?
Using void main()
{
playgif("data/my.gif", 0, -4, 1);
}

as spawnscript streams a GIF anim instead of loading it

 You should ask CE about it. He's in charge for v.2.

well,maybe dreamcast has not enough memories for V2.0 that I think.did CE still keep working for V2.0 on DC(then "Xbox console" is a good choice)?

oh you mean that bulky system that might resemble a dreamcast? NEIN!!

I rather see a streets of rage mod on a sega console first if anything, its basically one of the few games old sega has left aside from vectorman, comic zone, eternal champions and almost any non-mainstream sega game franchise *skies of arcadia adn shemune*

I personally would like to hear about the progress on v.2 as well.  :) *peer pressure*

Computica: to answer your question, bor revolution went under and it caused some hostility here at the lavalit forum requiring background checks of all members before being fully registered *a practice I think may still be in effect*
