Running OpenBor on Mac
« on: August 19, 2011, 12:22:27 am »
Okay, Im a bit confused here.  I've downloaded the most recent version of OpenBOR 3.0 3373 and I've read that it works on MacOs and that I should be using the Darwin folder.  When I open that all I get is the small icon and when it opens it says that there aren't any mods in the pak folder.
Am I completely missing something here or does openbor not run on Mac os?  I can't seem to find much info on a mac version.  I keep reading that it's been updated for MacOs but that's about it.  When I open the readme file it shows that there should be a pak folder.  Do I need to be running this on another operating system?
I'm currently using 10.6.8.

I'm not that knowledgeable on this kind of stuff, but I remember doing it awhile back on my parents pc and it was simple.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Well, OpenBoR is only engine. Without pak, there's no game you can play. So have you downloaded any game to be played with?

Yes, I've downloaded several games.  But there isn't a pak folder to place them in.  I've tried putting them all over the place. LOL.  And I don't have any options once it's opened to really do anything from my menu.

The paks should go to paks folder. This folder is in same folder as logs, saves and screenshots.

Thats the problem...there isn't a pak folder.  There isn't a folder for logs, saves or screenshots either.   When I open the Darwin folder all that is there is a little yellow icon that says "openbor".  There aren't any folders at all.  All the other folders, such as wii, psp, pc, etc. all have the folders.  But this one doesnt have anything else.
That's why I'm so confused.  I've downloaded several updates of this each week but there's never anything in there.
I finally gave up and realized I'm not figuring this out on my own so I posted, LOL.

1) Right click/control-click the OpenBOR icon and select "Show Package Contents" from the pop-up menu.

2) Navigate to the "Resources" folder, then click on "Paks" folder.

3) Add .paks and enjoy!

Awesome.  Thank you very much.  I wasn't holding the control button.  All my paks are working great.
Of course, I have a new question.  Is it possible to play something that isn't in pak format?  I really want to play that Streets of Rage 4 demo.  I downloaded one from Streets of Rage online and it's in a zip file and the one i downloaded on this site in another threat is opening as a data folder.  But there isn't a pak file to place in the folder.

I'd love to play this...is it possible?
