Sometimes we players experiment unforeseen events in our real lives(especially those of us with kids),so it would be useful. Was this function implemented and in that case, how does it work?

Don't experiment on kids. It's immoral!

when you complete a stage and you see the score screen next time you run the game you can continue where you left off

I guess the guy was indeed talking about an"emulator-like" save state system, in which you save your game at a precise moment and take back where you left off when the unpredictable event happened.

My answer is: Not that I know of, but it could be a nice addition to the Openbor engine, that's for sure.

Depends on mod settings.  Some start you back with the exact same number of lives and credits with the same character.  Some reset your number of lives and credits while also giving you the ability to swap characters.  Some simply don't save at all.

That's why an "in-engine"save state feature could come in handy, regardless of mod settings -after all, emulators possess such abilities, whether the roms do or not-and you can save anywhere you want to,be it in the middle of a dungeon or even at the title screen. So any player could pick up at the very moment where they had to stop playing, thus sparing them frustration and a bunch of bothersome Lost-your-high-score-start-over-from-the-beginning moments.
Yeah, that would be quite useful, don't you think?  ;)

some people may use this as a way to cheat i.e save before a boss fight or try to complete a level without losing a life constantly saving along the way.

a better option would be like a psp when you want to put the game on hold just quick power off the console then when you start it again it will still be on the same location and you can pick up where you left off but when you try this with openbor it just shuts down.

speaking of features would be good to be able to change your name in the high score- something simple and such a huge part of games that has been missing
My current project: Simpsons treehouse of horror
My very first mod: Evil dead 2 redux

To add that, this setting is set per game mode so it is possible in same mod, you get one game mode which allows saving while other mode(s) does not.

OpenBoR IS NOT emulator so there's no reason to have similar feature.

Technologically speaking, emulator save states are dumps of memory and cpu status. So a ps2 save state can be tens of megabytes (even compressed).

So to use pc save state, you need a wmware which can dump the whole memory of your virtual machine to file (can be really huge depends on your setting). Though you might not get good gaming experience if you don't have a high end computer.
